Davina's POV
I settled onto one of the weathered benches attached to the cargo ship's outer deck.
A gentle breeze lifted strands of my dark hair across my face, but I couldn't bring myself to brush them away. I simply remained there, my gaze fixed on the boundless ocean.
The water stretched endlessly, dark and vast, disappearing into emptiness. Much like what lay ahead for me.
I hadn't managed to eat much. I'd attempted to explore the ship with the others, hoping to escape the chaos of feelings churning inside me, but I couldn't manage it.
The vessel held no appeal for me, nor did the meals, or the idle conversation my siblings used to prevent themselves from crumbling.
My entire world had already crumbled.
I'd been watching the sea for what seemed like an eternity.
The pain in my chest had transformed into a persistent, heavy burden.
