Irvin's POV
"Are you insane?" Davina's voice suddenly pierced through the phone.
I exhaled as I continued listening. My body began to unwind, just slightly. My shoulders sagged a few inches, my jaw loosened.
Ryker laughed. "Is that too small? I'll double it."
My spine went rigid again.
This wasn't some game. Ryker was crossing lines, like he needed to prove me wrong.
"No," Davina snapped. "I don't want your money."
Her voice cut through like razor-sharp crystal. Fury burned in her tone now. She wasn't just bewildered or insulted anymore. She was furious.
Her voice dropped at the end, like she was getting to her feet—like she was physically pulling away from him.
Then her voice rose again. Stronger. More defiant.
"I'm literally with your friend," Davina declared.
I could almost picture her there, hands balled into fists, eyes blazing.
But Ryker wouldn't quit.
"You know what?" Ryker said. "I'll make it 100 thousand."
I went completely still.
