Nicole stared at Michael's back, her thoughts and emotions thrown into violent turmoil with no sense of order. Her heart beat so rapidly it almost felt as though it were trying to escape from her chest. A cold shudder passed down her spine.
Suddenly, it all clicked together.
How Michael knew things he shouldn't.
Why he was so strangely obsessed with protecting those close to him, never giving much thought to his own self-preservation or well-being.
Above all, why ever since Nicole had met him, she had been unable to get him out of her mind. Like the two of them had shared some kind of unbreakable connection that she wasn't able to explain.
"I believe you." The words slipped from her lips before she could stop them, her tone softening.
"Oh? Why so?" Michael replied, mildly amused by how easy she had believed his insane tale.
