Chapter 3 - 3. Food, Shelter and clothing

The Virgo hero team has always moved together for any mission. They had completed a number of missions and dungeon subjugations, making them a very high ranking heroes team.

Today's only the leader of the team was sent on a mission with D rank bodyguards.

Elizabeth sprawled on the ground. Her ankles had been slashed in the moment that she realized what was going on.

"What are you all doing? My father is the leader of the Black Lion guild. You won't get away with this!" She spoke, gritting her teeth.

"Don't you think we know that."

"Poor girl seems to have not realized it yet."

"The one who sent us is..." One of the men on shades bent over, brushing her sparkling blonde hair.

In that moment, a darker shadow fell upon them. Before the men could react, a torrent of black flames covered the entire alley, consuming them entirely.

"ARGHHHH!" One of them screamed out.

Lucius landed in the middle of them and gazed at the system window in front of him.

"Well... That was unexpected. I was scared it wasn't going to connect." He mumbled, seeing a singular number by the corner of his eye.

[–50 mana]

Lucius seemed satisfied with the skill, he was worried that the flames were not going to connect. It only took a second for the large flame ball to shoot forward.

Lucius kicked a container that was by his foot and it was at that moment that he heard another voice.

"Who are you?" The woman's voice came from behind him and he turned, looking to his back.

"Ah." Lucius was stunned.

'She's alive?' He wondered, looking at his palms again.

"Are you the one that killed them?" The lady asked, looking at him with a fierce look.

"Yes." Lucius answered, looking at the charred walls.

"Thank you for saving me." She said, trying to stand up.

'If not for the treasure that blocks fatal attacks, I would've been dead. He's definitely a high ranking hero.' Elizabeth thought.

She staggered and fell down to the ground again. Her legs were shaking and she couldn't feel any mana in her body.

"Please, take me to a hospital." She demanded looking at Lucius.

Lucius quietly shook his head and walked off, he had gathered enough souls to last him for just a few days now.

"I'll pay you!"

Lucius halted, heading her words.

"Any amount, just don't leave me here!"

"Alright lady, you won. But you better pay me well." He walked over to her, carrying her on his back.

Elizabeth seemed slightly uncomfortable with the gunk in his hair and she looked outwards, letting him carry her.

"AH!"

The next moment, they were high in the air. Lucius sprinted towards the main city of Argenta prime, leaving the outlands soon enough.

It was not a normal feeling at all. Just a week ago he was scrambling with guns and bombs, living miserable, now he had toe powers the heroes possessed.

Lucius had been around Argenta in his time here. He practically grew up here and had never gone anywhere else before.

It wasn't hard for him to locate a hospital that treats heroes too.

...

In the waiting lounge, Lucius had his head bowed down. Sweat drops slid down his face as he struggled to maintain focus.

~Ugh. What's someone like him doing here?

~How did that homeless pig walk in here?

~No way that guy is actually going to do something about him?

~The pig's going to get fucking trashed.

~I knew a slap was coming haha!

'Wait what?' At that moments Lucius raised his head, only to be met by a young man who had his hands raised to slap him.

Lucius caught the man's hand, staring at him right in the face.

The man had sharp features, with striking black hair that seemed to reflect light. His calm blue eyes stared at Lucius as if he was looking at a pest.

"We don't want vermin like you around here. You're a hero aren't you, you should take care of yourself more." The man said, freeing his hand with a tug.

"Wait, that guy's a hero."

"Why does he look like that?"

"Did he crawl out of a mud dungeon or something?"

Lucius looked back at the dude as he walked out of the Hospital. His gaze was cold, if he hadn't caught the dude's arm to show his strength, he would've been beaten.

Lucius sat down, heaving a sigh. His gazed moved to his palm, specifically the hand he used to stop the attack.

His entire arm was shaking.

'This is still nothing compared to Jeff.' he thought, relaxing.

In that moment, the hospital doors flew open and three guys marched inside. These ones seemed to be wearing black uniforms with their weapons strapped on them.

~How the fuck is she alive?!

Lucius frowned as he heard the thoughts of one of the men and he glanced at them.

They then entered into the room of the lady he was waiting for and he immediately stood up.

'Well, gotta go protect the cash I guess.' He moved, walking into the same room.

The three men in black uniforms turned around to see Lucius at the door, and all of their faces turned ugly with frowns.

"Don't mind me." Lucius said, taking a stool that was close to the door and sitting on it.

"You're still around sir." The woman who was on the bed smiled, looking at him.

"You know this creep?" Paul asked.

He was a heavy man with thick muscles and an equally thick mustache. He had an axe strapped to his back.

"Yes, this man is the one that saved me from the men I told you about." She explained, looking down at the sheets.

"Although I don't know why my father hasn't called me yet." She worried.

Lucius could feel the negative emotions oozing out of the three guys.

Another person might say that being able to feel negative emotions and hear negative thoughts was a blessing, but to him, it was a curse.

A damned curse that ruined life for him.

He looked at the beautiful woman who laid on the bed, she seemed happy to meet her party members again. They laughed and chatted, but Santiaga could feel the negative emotions oozing out of their body.

One thing was certain, these three guys do not like her at all.

Also...

[Reaper's sight]

The massive amounts of red aura surrounding the three men was leaking into the hallways. It was even brighter then the four men who wanted to kill the woman.

'Whatever, I'm not babysitting anyone.' He crossed his arms.

After an entire extra hour, Elizabeth was finally able to leave the hospital. She had to check in with the doctor and they cleared her.

"Thank you so much for today again. I didn't think anyone would try to do anything to me, considering my status." The woman spoke, fidgeting with her fingers.

"My name is Elizabeth by the way." She spoke, looking up at his face with a bright smile.

Lucius looked at her face, he then glanced back again, seeing the faces of the three heroes. They all glared at him with murderous gazes.

A while before while they were waiting, they tried to put something inside the drip of healing elixir.

Luckily he spotted one of them quickly.

"What are you doing?"

The man was startled as he saw Lucius by his side, he was holding an injection with a strange golden liquid in it.

"It's a revitalizing potions. It'll speed this thing up." The man explained with a smile.

His smile was as stupid as his mohawk.

"Ah, I'm an elixir expert. Revitalizing potions don't mix with healing elixirs. It caused a negative effect." Lucius made sure to raise his voice so the others can hear.

"Ah, is that so?" The man smiled, throwing out the revitilizing potion.

"I was just trying to help."

"Go sit your ass down."

That was how he came to make enemies of the three men following them from behind.

"Why did you become a hero?" Lucius asked, looking ahead of them.

The sky was as vibrant as ever, with white clouds moved to cover the skies. The breeze blew passed them, chilling Lucius' spine.

"E–Excuse me?" Elizabeth was confused.

What kind of question was that?

"Okay! Thank you very much for your help. She wouldn't have survived if you weren't there man." The dude with the mohawk walked forward, putting a hand on his shoulder.

"You better watch your back." The dude whispered close to his ears.

'Ohohoho. A threat?' Lucius smirked.

As he watched them walk away.

"Hey Elizabeth!" He called out to her, making them all turn around. "I want to stay at your place for a day."

"Now that's just crossing the line." Harvard, the dude with the axe on his back, stepped up to Lucius.

He released a pressuring aura around him and Lucius frowned under the pressure.

[System has detected mana directed at your body. Devour trait is active. You can devour mana and grow stronger.]

'Oh?'

Soon, Lucius felt a rush of mana flooding inside his body. He could tell that this guy was weaker then Jeff, but he couldn't tell by how much.

"Harvard calm down. No need to make a scene." The woman stepped forward.

"I'll let him." She replied, looking at all of them one by one.

"It's my choice to make. You all can leave now." Her tone had changed from gentle to authoritative.

Harvard gritted his teeth, looking at Lucius with a deadly glare.

It was crazy, in just one day he managed to acquire shelter. He'll probably use all that money to get food and clothing too.

Then what next?
