Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – The Great Connection

Do you think people can truly cooperate with each other?

I think they can… but only as a last resort.

We are divided by countries, cultures, beliefs, appearances, languages.

Well… I've always hated that. WHY CAN'T WE FORGET THIS?

Let's put our pride aside. Let's forget the past that divides us.

I'll probably never understand it. I've never been a patriot of my country.

I could reject our culture, language, and past for the sake of unity… for uniting the whole Earth.

But that's probably just me – Kari Ergin – and my crazy thoughts.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

'What was that?' I thought, leaving my small apartment. Strange sounds echoed outside—sounds I'd never heard before.

When I stepped out onto the street, a strange light began to engulf my entire body.

It flowed through me like blood in my veins.

I wasn't the only one. Every passerby, every person in sight, was enveloped in the same light.

Only people. The dog on a leash next to an old woman looked completely normal.

That's strange… it only affects us.

How widespread is this anomaly?

Is it some kind of attack? A biological weapon? Or maybe a virus?

"Excuse me… young man, I think there's something wrong with me… hmm, I thought I took my medication… that's a bit strange," the old woman said, shocked.

She looked about sixty, dressed in a red sweater and a short cream skirt, with thick white hair and huge glasses… and that same strange light passing through her body.

"Oh, don't worry. I see the light too, and I won't lie—I don't know what it means either," I said.

"Aha, so you didn't take your medication either. Don't worry, I have it at my house. Let's go, I'll give you some!" she said with conviction.

"Uh, what?"

"No, no, no, I'm not taking any medication…"

What was she saying? I should find a better conversation partner…

Before I could react, the old woman vanished—as if she'd never been there.

"HEY, GRANDMA, WAIT!" I shouted, but she was already gone.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck."

There are two possibilities: either we're all going to die soon and there's nothing we can do about it, or we're being taken somewhere… but WHAT THE FUCK?

Is this some kind of story where a cult turns out to be real and it's the end of the world?

'I'm a nonbeliever, so I can only…'

Before I could finish that thought, I ran back to my apartment.

I shoved all the knives from my kitchen into my backpack and put on the warmest clothes I could find.

I grabbed all the canned food from the fridge—that's the only food I had, but oh well.

All ready, I looked out the window.

A man in a business suit, maybe in his thirties, was disappearing before my eyes.

'Oh my god… it looks like we're being taken from the oldest to the youngest.'

So it's not a coincidence.

'I should check the TV.'

But before I could reach the remote, my hands vanished—literally.

I lost my arms, then my legs, and then… everything.

When I regained sight, I found myself in a strange room.

No… wait, that's not white.

'Wait, what is this color? I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS COLOR BEFORE,' I screamed in my mind.

Before my mind could process the information, the room gradually shifted to white.

'This thing is adapting to us? What is going on…' I thought, trying to calm down.

Then it appeared in front of me.

Red, scarlet eyes.

Kari Ergin has been transferred to another world—like everyone on Earth.
