Consciousness returned in a flood of sensations. Pain. Crushing weight. The taste of blood. And Jessica's voice, screaming for help, filled with anguish and terror.
Kelvin.
Something had happened to Kelvin.
His little brother. The kid who'd looked up to him with such trust. Who'd called him big brother even when they'd only just met. Who'd promised to protect his sister. Who'd trained so hard to get stronger.
The debris around Satou began to shake. Not from external force, but from the sheer pressure building inside him.
Rage.
Pure, crystallized, world-ending rage.
Not the hot anger of battle. Not the fury of a warrior. This was something deeper. Primal. The rage of a protector who'd failed. The wrath of a leader whose people had been hurt while he couldn't help them.
The debris exploded outward as if struck by a bomb. Stone and wood flew in all directions, some pieces embedding themselves in nearby structures.
