Chapter 328: Walking Out of the Hell Path
Hu Liena, having survived the ordeal, felt an immediate sense of relief, but then she grew tense again, turning her head to scan the surroundings.
"Where's that big snake?"
"I don't know. In the end, I shattered more than six of its inner cores. It might have run off to hide."
"Should we leave now?"
"Let's go. If that snake shows up again, it'll be a problem."
Ah Du stood up, brushing off the dust on his body, and made the decision to leave the area. Hu Liena had no objections, and the two of them walked one after the other down the narrow path ahead.
Gradually, the temperature around them began to drop, and the distance from the lava increased. The unbearable heat they had been feeling also started to fade.
"Looks like we're almost at the exit."
"Mm. After a whole day in here, it wouldn't be surprising if we've reached the end."
While they talked, they continued walking, and soon, a faint light, different from the glow of the lava beneath their feet, appeared ahead.
"Ah Du, look over there."
Hearing this, Ah Du looked up in the direction Hu Liena was pointing. He saw an opening in the stone wall at the end of the path.
"It's the exit. We're finally going to get out."
After two years in the City of Slaughter, their nerves had been on edge the entire time. At that moment, seeing the light once again brought a feeling of relaxation. Once they passed through the stone wall, they could return to their normal lives.
But crises often strike when people let their guard down. Just as the two of them were excited about escaping their cage, a piercing scream suddenly came from behind them, freezing them both in place as they felt the blood in their bodies stop flowing.
There was no need for a warning. The two of them immediately leapt into the air instinctively. The next moment, a huge blood-red figure shot past the spot where they had just stood, sending a gust of wind that scraped their cheeks.
"Another bat? How many times are we going to deal with this?"
Upon seeing the creature that attacked them, Hu Liena immediately complained. Unlike the Dark Gold Three-headed Bat they had encountered before, this one was even larger, completely blood-red, and had nine heads. Just one look made it clear how powerful it was.
Having missed its first attack, the blood-red Nine-headed Bat let out an enraged scream, its eyes glaring fiercely at the two prey in front of it.
"What should we do? Same old strategy, you attack from the front, and I'll flank from the side?"
"I don't think we need to. How about we fake an attack and then find a chance to leave?"
Hu Liena's eyes lit up upon hearing Ah Du's suggestion. Of course, the exit was right in front of them. Why should they waste time fighting with this monster?
"Alright, but that hole is pretty high up. Even if my tail stretches out to its fullest, I don't think I can reach it."
At these words, Ah Du froze for a moment. He had overlooked this issue. He quickly scanned the exit and the blood-red Nine-headed Bat in front of him, thinking about a solution.
After a while, Ah Du turned back to look at the little fox.
"Do you think you could reach the exit if we use this monster as a springboard?"
"Huh?"
Hu Liena looked at the bat's flying height and the distance to the exit, then nodded excitedly.
"If we keep this height and add our jumping distance, it should work."
"Great, then come up on my back."
"What are you planning to do? You're not going to use me as a sacrifice again, are you?"
Hu Liena instinctively took a step back, looking wary as though she had been bitten by a snake before, leaving Ah Du helpless.
"Come on, we still need your tail to get out. If anyone's going to be the sacrifice, it's going to be me."
"Right, so what's your plan?"
"Quit talking, just get on. You'll find out soon enough."
Hearing Ah Du's words, Hu Liena gave up on questioning further and decisively climbed onto his back.
Once the little fox was in position, Ah Du once again summoned his martial soul and activated his self-created soul technique.
"Soul Skill: King of Hell Flash, Heaven and Earth Move."
"Whoosh."
The two of them vanished from their spot with a speed almost imperceptible to the naked eye. The next moment, Ah Du, carrying the little fox, had reached the back of the Nine-headed Blood Bat's neck.
"Seize the opportunity, let's go."
Arriving at the right spot, Ah Du tossed the still-confused Hu Liena off his back, then grabbed her fox tail and hurled her toward the opening above.
Just as Hu Liena was about to ask what came next, she felt a sharp pain in her tail. A sudden sense of weightlessness hit her as she was rapidly pulled upward toward the opening.
At this moment, Hu Liena understood Ah Du's plan. She quickly extended her fox tail, hooking it onto a protruding stone pillar near the hole, then swiftly pulled herself toward the exit. The sunlight outside illuminated her beautiful face, making her feel as if she had been transported to another world.
"Stop daydreaming, catch me!"
Ah Du's voice snapped Hu Liena out of her daze. She turned around and saw him using the Nine-headed Bat as a springboard, activating his full soul power to jump toward the hole.
However, relying solely on his legs wasn't enough to reach the hole. Ah Du lost momentum about a hundred meters from the opening, starting to fall. Fortunately, Hu Liena reacted quickly and stretched her fox tail out to securely tie him. Then, she exerted all her strength to pull him up.
The blood-red Nine-headed Bat, feeling tricked, was not about to let them go. It turned around and attacked Ah Du in mid-air with terrifying speed.
Ah Du couldn't see the bat behind him, but Hu Liena, standing at the opening, saw everything. She tightened her grip on the tail in a panic, her head covered in a thin layer of sweat.
"Ah!"
With all her might, Hu Liena finally managed to pull Ah Du out of the hole just as the bat's sharp fangs were about to reach him. Due to the inertia, both of them rolled out of the cave, and behind them, they heard the massive crash of the Nine-headed Bat hitting the cliffside.
"Ha... Ha..."
After the intense and thrilling escape, both of them were exhausted, lying flat on the ground, greedily breathing in the fresh air outside.
They turned to look at each other, both seeing the relief in the other's eyes.
"Ha, we're finally out. I want to go home, back to the Spirit Hall."
"I miss Bing and the others. I want to return to my sect."
Just as the two of them were expressing their longing for home, a violent killing intent surged into their minds. Along with the blood-red eyes, Hu Liena immediately began to lose control, her body surrounded by a pale blue field, and the murderous intent became a tangible force in that moment.
Although Ah Du also felt the killing intent trying to overwhelm his consciousness, he was still able to control himself. Using his last bit of strength, he pulled a Soul Cleansing Pill from his chest and swallowed it. As the pill melted and its power entered his stomach, the killing intent receded like a tide, and the pale blue field around Hu Liena also gradually retracted.
But before he could relax, Hu Liena suddenly lashed out with her fox tail, stabbing at him. Her red lips parted as she screamed something, and all Ah Du could hear clearly was the word "Kill."
