Hours went by and it was evening. The sun has gone down and Daphne was a bit exhausted from washing all those clothes.
"The king has invited you to have dinner with him, my lady," Agnes said, coming inside the chambers and Daphne looked at her. The sky was dark, and Daphne was worn out from washing the fabric she bought today. They were all so dirty, but she was able to wash them and dry them. Tomorrow she can start embroidery. But she didn't expect the king to request for her
"Really?" she asked, surprised.
"Yes, my lady," Agnes replied. This is weird. The king is asking for dinner, he has never done that with his other wives. This would make the gossip increase and make the other wives hate her the more. Daphne is already growing on them; they would hate anything to happen to her.
"Tell me about the king," she said, and Agnes sighed.
"The king is, as the rumors say, my lady. This kingdom is the most powerful kingdom in the north because of the agricultural trade and gold mining. We are blessed with agricultural produce and so many traders from different kingdoms come here to trade and of course we tax them. So, the kingdom is blessed and rich, and it's all thanks to our king," she said, and Daphne nodded her head curiously.
"Before he became king, our former king was King Charles. I was still young during his rule, but he left on a bad reputation. He was a tyrant king, he had the worse temper and rumor had it he didn't like his first son, I can't really tell what happened, but he died in the battlefield and people said it was the king that killed his father but no one knows how he died, they just found him dead," she said and Daphne hummed. Surely, a lot of things are happening even if the people are not aware.
"After he died, his majesty became king, and we all feared he would make the kingdom worse. But he helped in growing the kingdom to where it is. It must have taken him a lot of effort and battles, but he grew this kingdom. He may be a tyrant king to everyone else but to us, he is our savior. He saved us," she said, smiling. The economy was so terrible under King Charles rule, the tax was incredibly high, even the rich complained. A lot of families died, their sons and daughters sold so they could pay for their tax. After he died. The entire kingdom rejoiced. Their joy knew no bounds and now, they are part of the most powerful kingdom in Europe.
"You all addressed him with your majesty and king of North, what is his name?" she asked, and Agnes shook her head.
"We can't say his name, my lady. If the guards hear of it, we could be beheaded. That is one of the laws, only the queens and concubines can say his name, but his majesty never told them his name, he is not in love with any of those women," she said.
"But you mention king Charles," Daphne said, wondering who made up such a ridiculous law.
"Because he is dead my lady," she said, and Daphne sighed. Surely, each kingdom has their rules and laws. It was weird no one knew his name. What is so special about it?
"Time to get ready for dinner my lady," Eliana said, and Daphne nodded her head, standing up. They walked to her chamber where Ava had already prepared her bath. It didn't take them much time, but when she was done refreshing and dressing up, a guard came to lead her to his majesty. Daphne walked behind him curiously. Since the day he came to raid her kingdom, she has not set her eyes on him.
She didn't even know why he brought her to the palace if he was going to ignore her, was he done being a coward? She breathed out feeling uncomfortable in the dress. She trusts her servants to have dressed her up in such tight clothing. The gown was a beautiful silk fabric with short sleeves showing her arms. The bottom of the gown is flayed, which moved according to how her hips swayed. There was not much design on the gown; what elevated the gown was the tight corset in her waist.
Her servants had wanted her waist to look snatched, they forgot she was going for dinner, and she needed space in her stomach to eat. Daphne was uncomfortable, she hated corsets, she hated how the cold breeze blew her arms, she hated how the corset pushed up her breast showing her cleavage. Did her servants dress her up to seduce his majesty or to have dinner?
"We are here, my lady," he said, stopping in his tracks. Daphne breathes out, slowly opening the door, here goes nothing.
