Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Attribute Upgrade

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an R-rank [Sonído] attribute, Power +1000]

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an SR-rank [Power Boost] attribute, Power +2000]

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an SR-rank [Eye Cero] attribute, Power +2000]

Just like with Edorad, Shin extracted three attributes from Daesle's corpse.

Since [Sonído] was nearly equal to his own current level, Shin discarded it, converting it into reiryoku. Next, although [Power Boost] was useful, its grade wasn't high enough, so he discarded that too. The last one, [Eye Cero], a Cero fired from the eyes, could be used to deceive or overwhelm opponents. Its versatility made it worth keeping, so Shin stored it in the system.

With Daesle dealt with, Shin glanced back at the field of corpses. If he broke them all down, he could finish the system's random task.

This time, though, he changed his usual method. Instead of deciding on the spot which attributes to keep or discard, he quickly touched each corpse in turn, storing everything for later review. This was no place to linger, two Arrancar had just died here. Others could arrive at any moment. He needed to finish fast and get away.

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an N-rank [Sonído] attribute, Power +500]

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an R-rank [Cero] attribute, Power +1000] …

As Shin expected, most of the drops were repeats, average in grade, and nearly bored him, until one appeared that lit his eyes up again:

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've collected an SSR-rank [Resonance] attribute, Power +5000]

An attribute this rare was like striking gold. Without hesitation, Shin claimed it immediately.

After what felt like ages, the last corpse disintegrated. Without delay, Shin left the battlefield.

Under the clear moonlight, he strode across the dunes, heading for the dead tree landmark where he'd agreed to meet Nel and the others.

Then, right on cue, the system chimed in his head.

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host, you've completed the random task. Extra reward granted: under certain conditions, you may upgrade any attribute]

The words hit Shin like the opening of a new world. His last bonus had increased his choices in battle. This one raised the ceiling of his strength outright.

But "certain conditions"… that was less clear.

"System," Shin asked immediately, "what do those conditions mean? And how do I upgrade an attribute?"

The response came at once:

[Host, there are three upgrade methods, each with different conditions]

[First, through self-training or combat application, improving speed, power, effects, and mastery of an attribute. Once experience is sufficient, the system will upgrade it automatically]

[Second, through random-task rewards or external forces capable of forcibly upgrading attributes]

[Third, the key point of today's reward: when the Host collects duplicate attributes, they can be combined to upgrade]

[Example: if the Host acquires 500 points of [Sonído] and later 1000 points of [Sonído], the two can be merged into 1500 points. When the total reaches 2000, the attribute upgrades to SR-rank [Sonído]. The process repeats, with real-time tracking in the formula book]

[In some special cases, similar attributes may only combine partially. For instance, merging 500 points of [Cero] with 2000 points of [Column Cero], because the core is the same but the effects differ, the value halves, resulting in 2250 points of [Column Cero]]

The system's explanation made everything clear.

This reward was indeed a double-edged sword. Its potential for upgrades was undeniable, but there were drawbacks. High-tier attributes like [Resonance] would be almost impossible to duplicate, leaving them slow to improve. Worse, feeding everything into upgrades would starve him of reiryoku, the fuel needed to wield those abilities in the first place.

The only fix was to gather even more attributes.

Still, Shin was relieved. At least he hadn't converted everything into reiryoku earlier.

Walking across the dunes, he eagerly tested the feature. He selected one of his [Column Cero] attributes and gave the command:

"System, merge into [Column Cero]."

[Ding~ Merge complete. You now possess 2250 points of [Column Cero]]

Encouraged, Shin continued combining different sets of [Cero] until,

[Ding~ Congratulations, Host. [Column Cero] attribute has been merged up to SSR-rank, Power +5000]

Shin couldn't help but grin.
