Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

The sound of the glass bottle shattering slipped from my hands after hearing my fiancé's voice.

"Repeat what you said, Alex?"I screamed at him, then threw the red bouquet of roses I had brought for him on the floor. I had planned to make this day special, I had planned to tell him a great news that would make our lives happier.

He clenched his jaw, and I was sure I heard him curse me under his breath.

"Aurora, I understand your anger, but if I don't marry Kitty, my father's companies will go bankrupt, and I certainly won't endure living the life of the poor, let alone the middle class. And you, more than anyone, know the amount of suffering I wouldn't be able to handle…"

I slapped him hard. Yes, I slapped my fiancé, the one I had loved since high school. My beloved Alex, whom I had stood by when his parents never gave him care or appreciation. That slap didn't only leave a red mark on his face, it made him explode in frustration.

"Damn it, Aurora, my marriage to Kitty will only be an act until I secure her father's guarantee, and then we'll be together."

He snatched my hand, gripping it tightly as he stared into my eyes, but I pulled away from him, pushing him. For some reason, every word he was saying now felt like poison in my ears.

He wanted to marry Kitty—Kitty, my dear friend my best one. Ha! Mercy, O people, this made no sense.

"Why don't you just admit it, Alex? Admit that you never loved me at all. I… yes I'm from the poor class. I don't suit you, I should have known. Damn you and Kitty. Go to hell, both of you. My name won't be Aurora if I don't make your life and hers hell."

I screamed in his face, the veins in my neck bulging. All my memories with Alex rushed through my mind, even our intimate moments.

I didn't notice Kitty clapping from behind. I turned toward her. She was stunning as usual, always the attractive girl wherever she appeared.

"My dear Alex, I told you not to try with her. She won't understand our situation. Look Aroura I'm only helping Alex out of his trouble, and there will be nothing between us, we are just friends, right Alex? "

Kitty said as she approached Alex. She wrapped her hand around his waist, her fingers trailing from his jawline down to his chest, ending her performance with a kiss on Alex's lips.

I was in pain as I stared at them. Why the hell was I still standing here? It was obvious they were deceiving me, enjoying my suffering. I gathered the remains of my dignity and quickly left his apartment. I had no time to gather my belongings.

It was late. There were no taxis. I walked in the darkness, grieving, feeling like my heart was being torn apart. Four years ago, my father had kicked me out of the house after marrying that woman that bitch. I had been so happy when Alex stood by me. He was my entire family.

Now I felt lost, faceless, with no friends, no family, no one. I placed my hand over my stomach.

"Even your father has abandoned us, my little one, ha."

I didn't know what to do. I was shattered, my hands were trampling. Alex had been the first and only love of my life. I felt like a fool for giving him my whole heart in this way.

A message came. I opened my phone—it was from the company email. It said the new CEO was on his way to the company building, and since I was his personal secretary, they requested my immediate presence at the company to welcome him and meet his needs. Normally, I would have refused their request, but this job was all I had left. I couldn't risk losing it.

"I will never lose my job."

I ran toward the light of a car at the end of the road. I just needed transportation, any way possible. I stopped in front of the car, panting heavily.

"Do me a favor and take me to Dantal Industries. I'll do anything you want."

The thick-browed man raised an eyebrow in surprise. I noticed him staring at some files, one of them carrying our company's logo.

"Are you a new employee? You have files of applicants for our company. Please, take me to the company. I promise lunch every day will be on me."

The handsome man sighed in a way that made me think a hundred times about what I had just said, realizing I must have looked like a prostitute offering herself on a golden platter.

"All right, my princess, I'll take you to the company. I'm heading there too. But don't forget your word—lunch every day will be on you."

I quickly got into the seat, suddenly aware of my messy appearance. I took out a makeup kit from my bag, one I always carried with me.

I felt his burning gaze on me, especially when I applied more lipstick. I turned to tell him to stop staring, but found him watching the road with a smile on his face.

"I don't want to stir your sadness, but I'm sure that fool doesn't deserve you,"

he said, glancing at me from the corner of his eye, trying to keep his focus on the road. I sighed loudly, remembering Alex's words.

"How did you know the reason for my sadness is a man?"

I asked him, only for him to cut me off, saying:

"There isn't a girl who would wear a red backless dress with a wide neckline, an updo hairstyle, and on top of it this engagement ring, and not be freshly broken up. You ended things with him, didn't you princess? "

His voice was calm, manly, alluring. For a moment, I forgot my pain and stared at him intently. Broad shoulders, that charming smile, an athletic body like a professional athlete.
