Chapter 60: Making a Wish
"Come forth, Shenron!"
As the summoning incantation rang out, under Franklin's spiritual perception, the seven seemingly ordinary orbs—made of a special material yet devoid of any energy—suddenly burst into dazzling golden light.
Dark clouds gathered above, thunder crackled across the sky, and through his spiritual sense, Franklin could see a mysterious and indescribable energy forming within each glowing Dragon Ball.
That power merged and transformed into a golden dragon of light that soared into the heavens, coiling and circling freely. As the dragon's form solidified, the golden light slowly faded, revealing a colossal four-clawed azure dragon that blotted out the sky.
"Are you the one who summoned me?"
At Franklin's signal, Bulma stepped forward. Franklin took a step back and said, "Yes, it was me."
"Then speak your wish. No matter what it is, I can grant it—but only one."
Franklin hadn't planned to make a wish himself, but hearing the dragon's confident tone stirred his curiosity. Just before Bulma could speak, he patted her shoulder. She looked at him in puzzlement, and Franklin smiled.
"Let me try first. I want to test just how powerful this dragon, who talks so big, really is."
Bulma gave a calm nod and stepped back. Franklin's gaze met the dragon's, his expression playful.
"Shenron, I wish for the seven Super Dragon Balls that drift across the universe—those that can summon the Super Shenron itself."
The world fell still. The previously cataclysmic scene froze in place, and the dragon's hollow, crimson eyes flickered with life. Lowering its massive head, it met Franklin's eyes.
"My apologies. I may have spoken too boldly. I can only grant wishes limited to this planet—one wish only."
Hearing this correction, Franklin frowned and pondered for a moment before speaking again. "Then I want one trillion supreme spirit stones."
The air grew tense once more, and—surprisingly—the dragon's enormous face showed a trace of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry. The best I can do is grant you one thousand supreme spirit stones. They are far more valuable than you imagine."
Hearing the dragon even offer an explanation, Franklin was speechless. In the anime, Shenron could revive the dead—yet here it balked at spirit stones? Asking for a thousand would be a waste of a wish.
"Forget it. Then another one—I want infinite lifespan, an endless life that can never be exhausted."
By now, the dragon seemed numb. It lowered its head again, as if engraving Franklin's face deep into its memory—wanting to remember this troublesome human forever.
"Sorry, the most I can give you is an additional thousand years of life, and I can only grant it once in your lifetime. Do you still wish for this?"
Franklin shook his head and stepped back. "No need. That'd be a waste. Let her do it instead."
At his signal, Bulma stepped forward. Her expression was nervous. "Great Shenron, I'm truly sorry. My boyfriend didn't mean any offense. Please don't be angry.
I just want a small wish—when I turn twenty-six, I hope to regain the peak appearance and figure I had at fifteen."
The dragon's expression visibly relaxed upon hearing that. "Granted."
Its eyes flashed red, and a beam of golden light descended from the heavens, vanishing into Bulma's body.
"Your wish has been fulfilled. Farewell."
Just before its form completely faded, Franklin noticed the dragon glance at him again, as though determined to remember him forever.
The golden light dissipated, the dark clouds cleared, and the night sky grew bright with stars. The seven Dragon Balls shot into the air and scattered in all directions.

"That really scared me just now," Bulma said, exhaling in relief. "I thought Shenron was about to attack us—and it's all your fault for making such weird wishes!"
Franklin could only spread his hands helplessly. "Its tone was so arrogant—how could I not test it? If it could've granted any one of those, I'd truly be invincible. Besides, it can't attack us—it only grants wishes."
Bulma pouted. "Aren't you afraid it might twist your wish somehow—grant it in a way you'd never expect?"
Her words made Franklin pause. Right—Shenron could only grant wishes, but how those wishes were fulfilled was another matter entirely.
"It's fine. I'll apologize next time I see it. I might've gone a bit too far, but it's generous—it won't hold a grudge, right?"
"Help! Franklin, help!"
The sudden cry for help startled Franklin. He turned to see Oolong and Puar running toward them in panic—while Goku stood frozen in place, an overwhelming, terrifying aura radiating from his body.
Just as Franklin looked up at the sky, realization struck him. "Bulma, is tonight a full moon?"
Hearing the question, Bulma instinctively glanced upward. Seeing the perfectly round moon, she nodded.
"Remember this—Goku isn't human. He's a Saiyan. When there's a full moon, if he sees it, he'll transform into a Great Ape. His grandfather died under his foot when he lost control in that form."
Before Bulma could even process what she'd heard, Goku's body began to expand rapidly. His clothes tore apart as a towering, fur-covered ape tens of meters tall let out a sky-shaking roar.
Spiritual energy surged into Franklin's eyes as he activated the Eye of True Sight. Goku's combat power leapt from 226–452 to 452–904.
His maximum combat power was nearly equal to Franklin's own. But Franklin recalled—the Saiyan Great Ape form was supposed to multiply power tenfold, wasn't it?
Focusing his energy again, Franklin watched as the system recalculated:
[226 + (226 × 100%) ~ 452 + (452 × 100%)] →
[226 + 226 ~ 452 + 452] → [452 ~ 904]
[Comprehensive Combat Power represents actual capability. The higher the power, the smaller the effects of techniques, bloodlines, and skills. Each additional digit is a qualitative leap.
Rising from 999 to 1000 marks a breakthrough—no amount of 999s could match a single 1000.]
Reading this explanation, Franklin finally understood why Goku's "tenfold" increase appeared so strange.
His own spiritual cultivation, physical strength, sword mastery, and all his techniques were already at their current peak, yet his combat power still capped at 999, unable to advance.
He realized that breaking from three digits to four was as difficult as transcending a lightning tribulation to step into the Core Formation stage.
