Chapter 6: Challenging the Young Generation of the Galaxy
"You? A mere human from some backwater planet—do you think you're worthy? Do you think you qualify?"
[Ding: Mission Triggered]
[Mission: Oath of Engagement]
[Mission Rank: A]
[Oath of Engagement: Convince the King of Deviluke to approve the marriage between Franklin and Lala Satalin Deviluke. Reward upon success: 300 Supreme-grade Spirit Stones]
The mission prompt flashed before Franklin's eyes. The S-rank difficulty made his heart race, and the cost of failure carved itself deep into his mind. But rather than fear, it only strengthened his resolve.
Franklin's expression turned solemn, his gaze firm. "Right now, I'm not worthy. But I can work for it. I believe that one day, I will be."
The King of Deviluke's eyes grew even more contemptuous, his words dripping with mockery.
"Work for it? Are you joking? You have no talent, no opportunities, and no resources. As the son-in-law of the Deviluke royal family, how long do you think you'd survive? Or do you plan to have Lala protect you?"
Lala huffed angrily as she pushed her way forward. "Who says hard work is useless? I believe in Lin! And I can protect him. No matter who comes after us, I won't let anyone hurt him!"
The King of Deviluke chuckled. "Interesting. You've managed to make Lala stand up for you like this. Boy, if you're a man, look me in the eye and tell me—do you think that, being protected by Lala like this, you're worthy?"
In the next instant, an invisible pressure crushed down on him from nowhere. Franklin wanted to speak, to argue, but he couldn't do anything. He was simply too weak.
Seeing Franklin's condition deteriorate, Lala quickly stepped in front of him, glaring furiously at her father.
"Dad, you're going too far."
"Too far? Hardly. I merely amplified the fear in his heart. If he can't even overcome something this small, then forget it. His future will be short-lived anyway, so stop embarrassing yourself by pleading for him."
Lala turned to Franklin, her face full of worry. Seeing his complexion grow paler and paler, she gripped his hands tightly.
"Lin, pull yourself together! I believe in you. No matter how hard the future gets, we can overcome it together."
Her words pulled Franklin out of the suffocating darkness. He took a deep breath, his expression gradually calming. He tightened his grip on Lala's hands.
"Lala, I'm fine. Don't worry."
With those words, Franklin stepped forward, his gaze unwavering as he stared straight into the projection of the King of Deviluke.
"It's true—I'm not worthy now. A mere ordinary human truly isn't fit to bear this responsibility. But I can be. I will be.
Your Majesty, future father-in-law, how about a wager? I bet that my future will be limitless. I ask you to do me one favor—help me declare a challenge to the entire young generation of the galaxy.
I will rise by stepping over every single one of them. If I lose, I will take my own life to atone, and this engagement will be nullified. What do you say?"
The pressure vanished completely. The King's playful expression disappeared, replaced by a rare seriousness as he stared at Franklin. After a long pause, he laughed.
"Good. Very good. I see your resolve. Your tenacity suits my taste. When I was young, I conquered the galaxy undefeated before I married Lala's mother.
To see you with such courage makes me think more highly of you. I'll give you this chance—I accept your wager. I'm very curious to see what you're relying on. But remember, don't disgrace me. You understand what I mean."
Franklin met his gaze head-on, without the slightest hint of hesitation. "Rest assured, Father-in-law. I will not disappoint you."
[Ding: Oath of Engagement completed. Reward: 300 Supreme-grade Spirit Stones. Claim reward?]

[Ding: Mission Triggered]
[Mission: Destiny Oath]
[Mission Rank: S]
[Destiny Oath: Defeat every challenger from across the galaxy. Reward upon success: 1,000 years of lifespan]
The new S-rank mission flashed before his eyes, making Franklin's eyelids twitch.
"Enough, Zastin. Take him back first. I have a few things to discuss with Lala."
Zastin knelt on one knee, his tone deeply respectful. "As you command, Your Majesty."
Lala, however, was clearly unhappy. She turned and headed straight for the control room doors. "I don't want to hear whatever you have to say!"
Seeing her leave, Franklin hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to intervene in the family matter. But the icy glare that suddenly locked onto him made everything clear.
He quickly rushed forward and shook his head at Lala. "Lala, I'm sure Father-in-law has something very important to discuss with you. You should hear him out.
He's already approved of our engagement. We'll have plenty of time together from now on—this moment doesn't matter."
Franklin's expression was serious. Lala hesitated briefly before nodding. "You're right, Lin. Once Dad's done talking, I'll come find you. We'll face those dangers together."
A warmth spread in Franklin's chest, and his expression softened. "Don't worry. If those people dare come to Blue Star, I'll make sure they regret it."
Then, led by Zastin, the two of them left the control chamber.
"Son-in-law, that was reckless. Many of the galaxy's younger generation have reached unfathomable levels of strength. You're nowhere near ready to face them."
Franklin nodded gravely. "Of course I know that. I'm just an ordinary man from Blue Star. How could I possibly stand against interstellar powers with technology capable of crossing the stars?"
Zastin was puzzled. "Then why swear such an oath? His Majesty is a man of his word—there will be no room for negotiation.
And remember, Princess Lala is one of the galaxy's most famous superstars, the dream girl of the younger generation. Once this news spreads, they'll flock to Blue Star to tear you apart."
Franklin's gaze hardened with determination. "I understand all of that. But some things can't be solved by running away.
And I believe I can raise my strength quickly. As for my engagement with Lala—I will not give it up."
When he returned to his room alone, Franklin slowly opened the Dimensional Heavenly Tome. Before, every mission he'd undertaken had been out of desperation, leaving him bitter and unwilling.
But now, he had the power—and for the sake of protecting his family from one planet-destroying disaster after another, and for a happy future—his resolve to grow stronger had never been firmer. Anyone who stood in his way, he would crush beneath his feet.
