Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 Hawke's Blood Analysis Report

"What did you just say?"

"Uh, I don't know?"

"No, you just said the doctor succeeded in an experiment?"

"A mouse with a broken tail. Didn't I tell you last time?"

Hawke frowned, looking at Gwen who seemed somewhat shocked, and asked curiously, "What's wrong?"

Gwen didn't speak.

Her eyebrows furrowed.

The experiment was successful.

A mouse with a broken tail.

For some reason, Gwen suddenly recalled the mouse that escaped from the lab two months ago after the accident and licked Hawke's dripping blood.

If her memory served her right, that mouse's tail seemed to be broken.

"Hiss!"

Gwen subconsciously gasped, then glanced at Hawke, before taking out her phone from her pocket and dialing a number.

Hawke, sitting opposite her, raised an eyebrow at Gwen's actions.

Soon,Gwen answered the phone.

"Hello, Elsa."

"Gwen? Are you calling to ask what happened? Sorry, the company made us sign a confidentiality agreement."

"No, Elsa, I wanted to ask if the doctor's experiment was successful on that mouse with the missing tail?"

"Uh…yes."

Elsa, the female researcher who had just signed a confidentiality agreement with the company and was currently at the Osborn Bio-Industry Building, nodded: "But we can't say it was successful, because it only happened once. We tried to replicate it afterward, but we failed."

Upon hearing this, Gwen quickly pressed for details.

"Was it that escaped mouse that was successful?"

"Yes, that one."

Just as expected!

Gwen thought to herself, then calmly said a few more words to Elsa on the other end of the phone before hanging up.

Hawke looked at Gwen after she hung up and asked curiously, "Was there anything different about that escaped mouse?"

Gwen put away her phone and glanced at Hawke.

She thought for a moment.

"Do you remember that lab accident?"

"Yes, I remember."

"You injured your hand and bled, right?"

"No."

Hawke shook his head decisively.

Gwen didn't speak, just quietly looked at Hawke.

Hawke met Gwen's gaze and thought for a moment: "Okay, let's pretend I was injured then, continue."

Gwen looked at Hawke.

"Those few drops of blood you left on the ground were licked away by the tailless mouse."

  "…"

Hawke frowned slightly as he looked at Gwen.

Gwen was also looking at Hawke.

Their eyes met.

Hawke looked away and gasped: "You suspect that the successful tailless mouse is the same mouse you saw?"

Gwen shrugged: "That's the only variable, otherwise, why would the doctor have conducted so many animal experiments, but only that mouse succeeded?"

Although she didn't understand the connection.

But the image of that waterfall deep in the Maryland forest, like an angry dragon raising its head, a reversed Milky Way, echoed in Gwen's mind once again.

And then there was Hawk, standing beneath the Reverse Heavenly River Waterfall, the very one who caused all this.

Hawk didn't speak, but silently placed the large bucket of Coke he was holding aside, then crossed his arms on the table, leaning slightly forward as he looked at Gwen.

He thought of what Peter had said on the apartment rooftop last night.

The Lizard Doctor carried his scent.

Hawke had assumed last night that the aura was lingering from Gwen's encounter with Dr. Connors the day before.

But now it seemed that wasn't the case.

An accident in the lab had caused him to bleed a few drops.

An escaped, tailless mouse had sucked those drops, becoming the sole survivor in an experiment where all the other mice had died.

Dr. Connors had extracted new serum from this surviving mouse and synthesized a regeneration drug.

And then…

Dr. Connors became Dr. Lizard?

Hawke frowned, looking at Gwen who was silently watching him. He opened his mouth, then shook his head, somewhat absurdly.

"My blood shouldn't be that bad, right?"

"There's a way to find out."

"What?"

"There's a blood analyzer in Stark Tower at the university; it can give you results in as little as half an hour."

  "…"

Stark Tower referred to Building 3 at the university, a laboratory building donated by Howard Stark, with most of the equipment donated by Stark Industries.

This also included the Stark logo-emblazoned, fully automated rapid blood analyzer, which looked worth at least tens of thousands of dollars but was actually worth over a million dollars.

Hawke put his finger in his mouth and sucked on it; when he took it out, the wound he had just pricked had healed.

Gwen had already started the machine.

The machine was already running.

While waiting for the results, Gwen turned to Hawke curiously: "Are you mutated like Dr. Bruce Banner?"

She had actually wanted to ask this for a while, but had never had the chance.

Hawke looked at Gwen's curious gaze, chuckled softly, and shook his head: "I can assure you, I'm 100% human, pure."

He had only awakened his inner power that's all!

Mutation? He would never admit to it.

Only the poor rely on mutation.

Although he was also poor, he relied on himself.

As he said before, his current strength was entirely due to his own self-improvement and tireless efforts day after day.

A thousand days of hard work, the sweat shed from ten thousand punches every day, finally watered the flowers he deserved.

Hawke thought to himself, paused, looked at Gwen, thought for a moment, and added,

"Anyway, I'm definitely not a mutant like Spider-Man. Also, don't put me with Bruce Banner, he's not worthy."

  "..."

Gwen's heart skipped a beat, catching the key point in Hawke's words, her eyes lit up: "Spider-Man, is he a Spider-Man? Is he also a mutant?"

Hawke blinked, and then, under Gwen's gaze, made a zipping motion to his mouth.

"Anyway, I won't reveal his identity, Wen."

"Fine, don't tell me then, I can find out myself."

Gwen rolled her eyes.

Just then.

Beep beep beep!

While the two were talking in the laboratory, the fully automated rapid blood test analyzer, which had been working for half an hour, finally emitted a notification sound.

Gwen quickly went over and took out the analysis report that the machine had produced.

Hawke also leaned over.

Before her eyes.

Red blood cell count, white blood cell count, platelet count... the values were off the charts.

Hawke blinked.

This result was somewhat expected; Saint Seiya's cultivation was all about self-improvement.

Gwen glanced at the test report, took a deep breath, and looked at Hawke: "Hawk, do you know what the outside world will think if they know about your blood analysis?"

Hawke smiled.

He looked at Gwen.

"Gwen."

"Others won't be able to collect my blood so easily."
