Chapter 4 - Charlotte Easton’s Proposal

Charlotte Easton is the owner and founder of Skyline Literary House in Chicago. Known for her elegance and innovative spirit, she is determined, creative, and, unfortunately, sometimes naive in her business strategies. Raised in a family of teachers who instilled in her a love for reading, she decided to pursue her dream of joining the literary world. This came after attempting to write herself, an endeavor that, as it turned out, met with little success.

She began building a literary community to discover and support talented authors and bring their stories to the biggest screens. The true launch of her career came with the successful organization of a charity event, during which she raised funds for an organization providing writing scholarships to young writers.

As her publishing house grew wings, Charlotte learned to take calculated risks and never shy away from challenges. This marked her transition from being merely a dreamer to becoming an increasingly respected businesswoman in the field. Over time, Skyline Literary House became one of the most successful publishing houses in America.

Charlotte has always maintained a close relationship with Ethan, built on years of trust and mutual support. Their friendship has occasionally been spiced by what seemed like a romantic relationship. However, for both, professional interests have always taken precedence.

Now, she dreams of collaborating on a project that will bring them closer.

Charlotte now finds herself at a crossroads, where she must decide whether her desire to advance her business will lead her to sacrifice important personal relationships or if she can find a way to intersect the two worlds without losing her essence. This was the challenge she took on when she sought out Ethan.

Ethan received an invitation from Skyline Literary House in Chicago. The program was extensive, a blend of excitement and curiosity, featuring the launch of a new book by author Caleb Donovan, the awarding of a debut prize, and an evening gala.

The owner of the publishing house, Ms. Charlotte Easton, a dear friend of Ethan's, sought him out on the day of his arrival. Ethan was waiting in the hotel lobby for Charlotte. He waved, and she smiled.

"So good to see you again," Charlotte exclaimed.

"The pleasure is mine. You always have a way of standing out, Charlotte," Ethan replied.

Charlotte's smile widened, her eyes sparkling with personal charm.

"Are you ready to say a few words about Donovan's book?"

"Yes, I'll introduce his book. It's written in such a unique way."

"I know what you mean. That's Donovan for you, an eccentric. I saw him walking his cat one morning. He was in his underwear, wearing one red sock and one green one. I told the driver to stop the car. I got out and asked if everything was okay. He said it's his way of enjoying each new day."

"The last time Mr. Donovan was in my office, I didn't notice anything different about his shoes. As always, red socks, blue shoes. It might seem ridiculous, but I believe in his talent. Mr. Donovan doesn't have many friends and is a quiet man. But he's always polite to everyone."

Charlotte stood with an air of confidence that matched her reputation. She had always possessed a striking attractiveness and graceful presence. Her outfit suited her perfectly, reflecting her confident personality.

"Let's find a more comfortable spot to talk."

As they settled into the plush chairs of a secluded lounge, Charlotte leaned slightly toward Ethan.

"I'm about to launch a new project. I have a proposal for you," she began. "It will involve your next masterpiece and the future of Skyline Literary House."

Ethan's interest was piqued.

"I'm curious."

Charlotte paused for a moment before continuing.

"I'm aware of your recent success. I want exclusivity for your next work. I'd like us to sign an exclusive contract for a series of novels destined for the screen. It will conclude with significant benefits and opportunities for both of us. Will you accept?"

Charlotte was brimming with confidence and enthusiasm, rooted in a tangible and enticing project. Ethan, too, was excited by the prospect of this new venture.

"A simple yes. That's my answer: Yes."

Charlotte kissed Ethan.

"This kiss is more than a signature," she said.

Ethan looked into her eyes and kissed her back with passion.

They ordered a bottle of champagne. Their conversation flowed effortlessly. They were beginning a partnership that could redefine their careers and personal lives—a strong and unexpected bond.

"Are you still single? Never married?" Charlotte asked.

"Yes, I'm single. Right now, I'm looking for a new relationship. And you?"

"I divorced my actor husband five months ago."

"Really?"

"Yes, I took the initiative, which I'd never done before. So, as a result, I ended the relationship. So, let's get a room and have some fun."

The conversation deepened into intimate personal revelations.

"I've always admired your work," Charlotte confessed. "And now I'm even more drawn to your stories."

Ethan sat close to her, listening attentively while grappling with the hesitation of taking the first steps into a new relationship.

"Ethan," Charlotte began cautiously. "Have you ever thought about having a private, confidential relationship with me? One that I believe would bind us more professionally."

Ethan was surprised by her candor but intrigued by the proposal. He sat close, listening intently while wrestling with the hesitation of starting a new relationship.

"I think, first of all, I like you."

Ethan began kissing her with passion. They started caressing each other.

Charlotte lay down on the carpet.

"I want you to let loose inside me. Keep going," Charlotte implored.

In the intimacy of their hotel room, Ethan and Charlotte explored their new connection. They spent a night discovering each other's fears, hopes, and dreams.

Both began the next day, preparing to attend the scheduled events. The agenda included the launch of writer Caleb Donovan's book, the awarding of a prestigious prize, and a vibrant evening gala.

Before leaving for New York, Ethan was invited to Charlotte's home.

They reached the bedroom, where their passion ignited again.

"Lie on your back and let me take care of things," Charlotte said, her voice filled with desire.

"You're incredible," Ethan exclaimed. "I've tried to compare you. The problem is, you don't resemble any other woman. But that's no longer a problem."
