As Ester tried his best to pull the Eternal out of his body, nothing happened at all—not even a bit of Accisum was felt.
He continued to try, and still nothing appeared. But in that second, a monster was hiding in the bushes, concealing itself and watching Ester. He couldn't see it, so he just looked around, trying to figure something out.
Ester looked into the trees. He thought he saw a monster, but it was a human figure watching him. Ester was confused and scared, with nothing to protect him; he just stood there, shaking. The monster in the bushes that had been watching him finally revealed itself as a goblin, moving toward Ester, while that human figure in the trees just watched his every move.
The man in the tree moved his hand, summoning an ice shard that struck the goblin in the head, killing it. Ester watched, stunned that the person in the trees had helped him. Then the figure climbed down from the tree, revealing himself to be Ester's father, Luke.
As Luke walked toward Ester, he froze—he hadn't known his father was trailing him.
His father said, "I was concerned about you going into this dangerous forest all by yourself, so I thought I'd follow you just to be safe." Although Ester didn't want to admit it, if his dad hadn't been there, he might not have won against that goblin. His father was no ordinary man either—he was a knight mage who used his magic in combat to help protect the country. Because of that, Luke was Ester's biggest role model.
Luke, concerned, asked if Ester was hurt, but he said no. As much as he loved his dad, Ester didn't want him to interfere in his fight with the goblin. Luke, feeling bad, decided that Ester should at least learn a little bit of Combat 101 from him, even though they still didn't know what his Accisum was. His dad, on the other hand, had an Accisum called Infernal.
That Accisum allowed him to create and manipulate fire at will. They started training in the forest from day to night, only stopping for food. For a week their training continued, and Ester began to learn a little more about combat. He was also experimenting with his Accisum in secret since he really wanted to figure out his powers.
On the last day of their training, as he and his father were hunting for goblins, they found one that Ester began to fight against. During the fight, the same thing that had happened before occurred again. Although the spark lasted for only a split second, he felt a sudden boost of power and was able to barely overpower and slay the goblin before collapsing to the ground, exhausted.
