The Carter side of the venue had already settled.
Relatives filled the designated rows, silk dresses and tailored suits rustling softly as they adjusted themselves and eyes flicking around in curiosity and admiration.
The wedding had drawn attention far beyond family. This wasn't just a union, it was a spectacle.
Melissa sat beside Ursula, posture relaxed but alert, while Gregory took the seat beside them moments later, exchanging brief greetings before the murmurs resumed.
"Shouldn't you be with Evelyn?" Melissa asked. "It's almost time."
"I will leave in a minute," Gregory said. "She needs some time and I wanted to check if everything is settled here."
Seeing her son anxious, looking around and frowning at the tiniest flaw that she was sure no one was even noticing, Ursula smiled.
"It's not easy to be a father to a daughter," she looked at him. "It's a blessing but it also comes with more responsibility."
She patted his shoulder once. "And you are doing a great job."
