For a split second, just one, Margaret's mouth tightened but then she smiled.
"Well," Margaret said dryly, "it's been a long time."
Ursula returned the smile which was equally composed. "Too long, you are still terrifying, I see."
Margaret huffed. "And you are still dramatic."
Pauline glanced between them, amused. "Shall we take this inside before the house overhears?"
Gregory greeted Pauline next, polite and reserved. "Thank you for hosting us."
"You are welcome here," Pauline replied simply. "All of you."
Alexander appeared then, stepping down the stairs from inside the mansion.
His eyes went straight to Evelyn.
Whatever formality the moment demanded, it softened instantly.
"You are here," he said quietly, relief unmistakable.
She nodded. "We are."
He offered his arm without thinking and she took it just as naturally.
Margaret watched the exchange with clear satisfaction.
