Chapter 2 - The Child with Emerald Hair

After the sensation of being pulled through a spiral faded, a strange calm washed over me.Too calm, actually.

"This feeling!" I tried to speak, but only meaningless grunts left my mouth."So it's true! I can feel my hands and feet!" Though I had no real control over them.

Amid the sounds of a baby, I finally managed to open my eyes. What I saw… I couldn't decide if it fascinated me, scared me, made me happy, or sad.

With just one look, I understood: I was in the world of Mushoku Tensei. That alone was wonderful.

But there was a catch.I was the son of Elinalise.

Yes, that Elinalise. I didn't even know what to say about it… But did that make me half-elf? Or did it depend on who my father was? Hard to tell, especially knowing the kind of "family planning" my mother was known for.

Let's look on the bright side: I would definitely have more freedom than most. And thinking about it, despite everything, Elinalise wasn't a bad mother. Just look at Sylphy's father—she cared for him until he could take care of himself. Also… I must be gorgeous.

But when I looked closely at her face, I didn't see joy. I saw concern.I had no idea why, but there was nothing I could do. A baby can't fight against certain patterns.Even I, who hate rules, had to accept this one: the helplessness of infancy. All I could do was wait.

As time passed, I noticed something: my mother never denied me anything. On the contrary, I had plenty of everything. And yet, she always seemed to hesitate, as if something weighed on her mind.

At first, I ignored it. But after a few months, it became clear that it was serious.

Then one day, looking at my reflection in a basin of water, I realized just how handsome I was.Kidding aside, my brain finally clicked the pieces together. That god had played a trick on me.

My hair was a vivid emerald green.Just like the Superd.

And it all made sense. I had asked the god for strength, mana, and intelligence—all things tied to Laplace. Of course my appearance would carry the same curse.

Even so, my mother still loved me deeply. And she gave me a beautiful name: Lewis Dragonroad.

Time flew by. Months turned into years, and now I was three.I lived in Roa, a prosperous city in the Fittoa Region of the Asura Kingdom.

My life was… relatively peaceful.

Relatively.

Some people stared at me in fear. Others shouted at me in the streets. The green hair didn't help.My mother eventually stopped taking me outside as often, and it hurt her. I could tell by her face. That brought me down for a while, but not enough to stop me.

Instead, I worked harder. I learned to read very young, which left my mother surprised. Thanks to my intelligence, she began to trust me more, even though I was only three years old.Not bad, huh?

But enough about growth. What really mattered was that I had finally reached the age I'd been waiting for: I could now start practicing magic.

Earning my mother's trust was only part of the plan. The real goal was using my free time to expand my mana pool.

And so began the foundation of my new life:How to use magic without following the traditional system.

In this world, magic is ranked: Saint, King, Emperor… and classified into elements like fire, water, earth, and wind. But that's just a way of categorizing things. The essence of magic is freedom. The manifestation of the impossible.

Which meant I didn't need to follow this world's rules. That would be my starting point.

Still, I didn't want to blow up the house.Better to start small—with wind.

"No one will suspect if it just gets a little breezy, right?"

With that thought, I began training.

First step: understand the flow of mana and how to activate spells.Second step: use imagination to give it form.

Simple in theory. Hellish in practice.

"This is harder than I thought… I definitely underestimated magic."

But if everything were easy, what fun would there be?Let my frustration become fuel.

Hours of effort. Shouts that could rival a Super Saiyan. Worried looks from my mother.Until finally—I succeeded. I managed to draw out mana and spread it evenly throughout my body.

First step complete.

Now for the real deal.

"Will casting be easier?"

I pictured something simple: the breeze of an electric fan.And it worked.

A gentle wind brushed past me."That was easier than I thought."

No more wasting time. It's grind time!

Days, weeks, months.I used up my mana every single day, over and over, slowly expanding my reserves.

Until one day, tired of the repetition, I decided to change course.

— Mom.

Elinalise looked up from her book almost instantly.— What is it, Lew?

— Is it true… that you're an adventurer?

She smiled. — Yes. I thought I'd already told you.

My eyes shone. — Then please… teach me how to use a sword!
