Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 Battle on the Grass Field

Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows into the Trainer's passage of the Pokémon League Competition, as Ash, Xiao You, and Brock hurried towards the arena.

They had just witnessed Gary's complete elimination, and the lingering intensity of that fierce battle still hung in the air.

"I can't believe Gary lost so badly..." Xiao You bit her lip, her fingers nervously intertwined.

Brock patted her shoulder: "His opponent is, after all, a genius from the Dragon Clan, whose talent is said to surpass Champion Lance's."

Ash clenched his fist, his eyes burning with fighting spirit: "That's why we can't let our guard down! Pikachu, are you ready?"

"Pika! (I'm ready!)" The yellow electric mouse perched on Ash's shoulder perked up its ears, and the electric sacs on its cheeks flickered with faint electric light.

Turning the last corner, the three arrived at Ash's battleground—Arena Three.

The stands were already packed, and cheers surged like waves.

At the commentary desk, Contest star Lucia and Dragon Master Lance were adjusting their microphones.

"Trainer Xiao Zhi, please proceed to the Trainer preparation area immediately!" A staff member rushed over to inform him.

Ash nodded, turning to his companions: "I'm going to get ready, you guys go find your seats first."

"Go Ash!" Xiao You waved her fist.

"Remember to observe every detail of your opponent." Brock pushed up his glasses, offering his final advice.

When Ash entered the preparation area, his opponent had already been waiting there for a long time.

Kaori—the young lady of a famous Pokémon family in the Kanto region—was dressed in a light purple dress, her long golden hair elegantly tied with a ribbon.

She was gently fanning herself with a folding fan, and seeing Ash enter, she slightly raised her chin.

"Oh? You're my opponent?" Kaori's voice carried a hint of arrogance, "I hope you don't disappoint me too much."

Ash responded neither humbly nor arrogantly: "I will give it my all."

Kaori chuckled: "I heard you have a special Pikachu? But in front of my Beedrill, Electric-type Pokémon won't have an easy time."

Ash didn't reply, simply checking the Poké Balls at his waist.

He knew that it wasn't Pikachu who would be sent out today.

"Trainer preparation time is over, both sides please enter the arena!" The referee's voice sounded over the broadcast.

The two walked one after another to the center of the arena.

Spotlights shone on them, and the stands erupted in even more fervent cheers.

Ash noticed many fans in the audience holding signs that read "Lady Kaori Must Win."

"We are now broadcasting the third round of the Pokémon League Competition, the match between Trainer Xiao Zhi and Trainer Kaori!" Lucia's sweet voice spread throughout the venue via the loudspeaker, "The rules are 3v3, and one side loses when all of their Pokémon lose the ability to battle!"

Lance took over the microphone: "As far as I know, Trainer Xiao Zhi has prepared a special surprise for everyone today."

What surprise?

Could it be that legendary Pokémon?

Front row selling melon seeds and drinks.

The live stream's bullet comments instantly exploded, and the audience's curiosity was completely piqued.

The referee walked to the center of the arena: "Both sides, please send out your first Pokémon simultaneously!"

Kaori elegantly tossed an Ultra Ball: "Go, my darling, Beedrill!"

A red light flashed, and a large Beedrill with gleaming stingers appeared on the field, its wings vibrating rapidly with a buzzing sound.

Ash took a deep breath and took out a special Poké Ball from his waist.

This ball had a rainbow-like sheen on its surface; he had obtained it along with the Rainbow Eevee when he rescued it from Team Rockets' laboratory.

"I choose you, Rainbow Eevee!"

The moment the Poké Ball opened, the entire arena fell into a brief silence, followed by deafening gasps of astonishment.

What appeared on the field was a gorgeously colored Eevee; its fur was not the usual brown, but rather displayed seven colors like a rainbow, shimmering with a dreamlike luster in the sunlight.

Most notably, the ring of fluff around its neck, like a flowing scarf, subtly changed color with its emotions.

Oh my god! What kind of Pokémon is this?!

A Rainbow Eevee?

This is definitely Photoshopped!

Mom asked me why I'm watching the live stream on my knees.

At the commentary desk, Lucia clapped excitedly: "It's Ash's Rainbow Eevee indeed! The only special Pokémon of its kind in the world!"

Lance professionally added: "According to research data, this Eevee has Mew's genes injected into it, possessing special abilities that ordinary Eevee do not have."

Kaori's originally elegant and composed expression instantly froze, and her folding fan dropped to the ground with a "clack."

She widened her eyes, staring in disbelief at the dreamlike Pokémon on the field.

"This... this is impossible! How can Eevee have such colors!"

The referee also paused for a few seconds before recovering: "Beedrill versus Rainbow Eevee, battle begin!"

Kaori quickly picked up her folding fan, forcing herself to calm down: "Beedrill, use Poison Sting."

Beedrill's stingers glowed purple, and countless tiny poison needles shot towards Rainbow Eevee like a rainstorm.

"Eevee, dodge and then use Inferno Overdrive!" Ash quickly commanded.

Rainbow Eevee nimbly jumped and dodged, all the Poison Sting attacks missing.

Immediately after, its entire body suddenly ignited with scorching flames, the flames displaying a peculiar seven-colored flowing light, rushing towards Beedrill like a burning meteor.

"What move is this?!" Kaori exclaimed.

Lance immediately explained: "Inferno Overdrive, a powerful Fire-type move, not only has immense power but also a very high chance of inflicting a burn status on the opponent."

Beedrill tried to block with its stingers, but the rainbow flames instantly engulfed it.

When the flames dissipated, Beedrill was charred black, trembling in pain—it had been burned.

The special effects are too dazzling!

Eevee can actually use Fire-type moves?

This is unscientific!

"Beedrill, hold on! Use Cross Poison!" Kaori shouted anxiously.

Beedrill endured the burning pain, its stingers crossed into a cross shape, striking at Rainbow Eevee with Toxic energy.

Ash calmly responded: "Eevee, use Breakneck Blitz!"

Rainbow Eevee advanced instead of retreating, its entire body glowing with dazzling light, meeting the attack head-on with an unstoppable momentum.

The moment the two forces collided, Beedrill was directly sent flying, crashing heavily against the arena wall, sliding to the ground and losing consciousness.

The referee raised the flag: "Beedrill is unable to battle, Rainbow Eevee wins! Trainer Kaori, please switch out your Pokémon!"

The entire venue erupted in thunderous applause.

Kaori bit her lip as she recalled Beedrill, then hesitated for a moment before choosing her next Poké Ball: "Go, Bellsprout!"

A slender Bellsprout appeared on the field, its leaves on its head swaying slightly.

"Bellsprout versus Rainbow Eevee, battle continues!" the referee announced.

Ash quickly analyzed the situation: Bellsprout is Grass/Poison type, Dazzling Gleam as a Fairy-type move is not very effective against Poison types, and while Inferno Overdrive is effective, Bellsprout has some resistance to Fire types...

"Eevee, use Thunder Shock!" Ash decided to change tactics.

Rainbow Eevee's entire body erupted with golden electricity, and a thick bolt of lightning struck Bellsprout directly.

Although Electric-type is not very effective against Grass-type, Bellsprout trembled all over from the shock.

"Bellsprout, quickly use Vine Whip to grab it!" Kaori urgently commanded.

Bellsprout swung out two vines, trying to entangle Rainbow Eevee.

But Eevee nimbly jumped and dodged, continuously releasing electricity at the same time.

"That's it, maintain distance and keep using Thunder Shock!" Ash directed.

Cold sweat seeped from Kaori's forehead: "Bellsprout, use Sweet Scent to distract it!"

A sweet, cloying scent emanated from the flower on Bellsprout's head, and Rainbow Eevee's movements noticeably slowed.

"Oh no, Eevee, snap out of it!" Ash shouted.

Rainbow Eevee shook its head, its eyes regaining clarity.

Just then, Bellsprout's Vine Whip suddenly struck, this time accurately wrapping around its hind leg.

"It worked! Bellsprout, use Acid!" Kaori commanded excitedly.

Bellsprout spewed corrosive liquid from its mouth; although Rainbow Eevee tried its best to dodge, some of the liquid still splashed on it, eliciting a painful whimper.

Ash clenched his fist: "Eevee, use Breakneck Blitz to break free!"

Rainbow Eevee's entire body glowed again, forcibly breaking free from the Vine Whip's bondage, and simultaneously releasing a shockwave that pushed Bellsprout back.

"Now, for the final blow, Inferno Overdrive!"

Eevee, engulfed in high-temperature flames, directly hit Bellsprout, which convulsed a few times before finally falling to the ground, losing consciousness.

The referee announced: "Bellsprout is unable to battle, Rainbow Eevee wins! Trainer Kaori, please switch out your last Pokémon!"

This Eevee is too strong!

It's already a 2-0 sweep.

Is Lady Kaori going to lose?

Kaori's hand trembled slightly; she hadn't expected to be pushed to such an extent.

After taking a deep breath, she sent out her last Pokémon: "Scyther, it's up to you!"

A majestic Scyther appeared on the field, its scythe-like forelimbs gleaming coldly.

"Scyther versus Rainbow Eevee, battle continues!"

Ash observed Rainbow Eevee's condition; although it had defeated two Pokémon consecutively, it was already panting.

And Scyther, as a Bug/Flying type, has no special resistance to Fairy-type moves...

"Eevee, use Dazzling Gleam!" Ash decided to change his strategy.

Rainbow Eevee's neck fluff suddenly puffed up, emitting a dazzling light.

A fragrant Twister formed out of thin air, sweeping towards Scyther.

Kaori sneered: "Too naive! Scyther, use Swords Dance to power up, then use X-Scissor!"

Scyther spun its body rapidly, boosting its attack power, then charged into the Twister, its forelimbs crossed into an X-shape, cutting through the storm and heading straight for Rainbow Eevee.

"Eevee, quickly dodge!" Ash shouted urgently.

But Scyther's speed was too fast; although Rainbow Eevee tried its best to dodge, it was grazed by X-Scissor, rolling painfully a few times.

"That's it, continuous attack!" Kaori saw hope for victory.

Scyther gave its opponent no chance to breathe, immediately launching a second attack.

Ash knew he had to change tactics: "Eevee, use Inferno Overdrive to create a wall of fire to block it!"

Rainbow Eevee spewed a wall of fire, temporarily blocking Scyther's offensive.

But continuously using powerful moves had already exhausted it, and its movements noticeably slowed down.

Kaori keenly noticed this: "Scyther, attack from above! It's almost out of strength!"

Scyther flapped its wings and flew high into the sky, then swooped down.

Ash's expression suddenly turned resolute: "Eevee, now! Use Breakneck Blitz!"

Rainbow Eevee gathered its last strength, its entire body emitting an even more intense glow than before.

The moment Scyther approached, Rainbow Eevee suddenly leaped up, and the two collided in mid-air.

With a loud "bang," the energy shockwave even caused a gust of wind pressure to the closest spectators.

When the dust settled, Scyther lay on the ground, while Rainbow Eevee, though swaying, was still standing.

The referee observed carefully before announcing: "Scyther is unable to battle, therefore the winner is Trainer Xiao Zhi!"

The entire venue erupted in thunderous applause and cheers.

Kaori looked at the scene in disbelief, then gave a bitter smile as she recalled Scyther.

That was amazing!

Rainbow Eevee swept three Pokémon!

This is definitely one of the most exciting matches of this competition.

At the commentary desk, Lucia said excitedly: "What an astonishing performance! Trainer Xiao Zhi's Rainbow Eevee, in its first public appearance, accomplished the feat of defeating three opponents by itself!"

Lance nodded in agreement: "Ash's grasp of type advantages and move selection was extremely precise, giving his opponent no opportunities."

After the match, Kaori walked up to Ash, surprisingly showing no signs of defeat's dejection; instead, a peculiar light flickered in her eyes.

"Ash, name your price." She said bluntly.

"What?" Ash was confused.

"Your Rainbow Eevee." Kaori took out a check from her handbag, "Fill in any number you want, I'm determined to have this Pokémon."

Ash's face immediately darkened, shielding the tired Rainbow Eevee behind him: "Impossible. Eevee is my partner, not a commodity."

"Don't be silly," Kaori persisted, "You know our family's influence in Kanto; if you're willing to sell, I can guarantee you'll get..."

"I said I'm not selling!" Ash's voice suddenly rose, drawing the attention of those around him, "Pokémon are not for buying and selling!"

Kaori was taken aback by his imposing manner, stepping back.

A moment later, she put away the check, resuming her haughty expression: "Hmph, you don't know what's good for you. Let's go." With that, she turned and left.

Ash let out a long breath, crouching down to gently stroke Rainbow Eevee's head: "Are you okay?"

"Bui! (I'm fine!)" Rainbow Eevee affectionately rubbed against his hand; though tired, its eyes were full of joy.

Just then, Xiao You and Brock ran down from the stands, excitedly gathering around Ash.

"That was amazing, Ash!" Xiao You jumped excitedly, "Your Eevee is just too cool!"

Brock, meanwhile, looked at Rainbow Eevee with concern: "It's used a lot of energy, it needs to be taken to a Pokémon Center immediately."

Ash nodded, carefully picking up Rainbow Eevee: "Let's go to the Pokémon Center. And then... go see how the other matches are going."

As they left the arena, they could still hear the commentators and audience members still enthusiastically discussing the exciting match.

Rainbow Eevee's debut had already become the hottest topic of this Pokémon League Competition.

I wonder what Pokémon Ash will send out next match.

Hope to see Rainbow Eevee again.

Screen recording team, hurry up and release the high-definition video.

Meanwhile, in the shadows of the Trainer's passage, a figure in a Team Rockets uniform was whispering into a communicator: "Target confirmed, gene sample activity is good. Preparing to execute recovery plan...
