On Christmas Eve, Alan took Everly out to cheer her up after literally everyone canceled their plans. Work, family obligations, sudden mysterious illnesses—the usual holiday betrayals. Since his hyperactive little sister had somehow never been to an amusement park before, he figured this was the perfect remedy.
"There's this giant Christmas tree where supposedly if you make a wish there, it'll come true," Alan mentioned casually while navigating through holiday traffic.
Everly pressed her face against the car window, watching the twinkling Christmas decorations blur past like a festive kaleidoscope. She snorted with amusement before turning to her brother.
"I didn't expect you to believe in fairy tale nonsense."
Alan almost blurted out that he absolutely didn't believe in wish-granting trees, but that would totally kill the Christmas magic. So instead he went with strategic ambiguity.
"Isn't it interesting though? Maybe something miraculous will happen..."
