Chapter 1 - The Rejected Luna

The full moon hung low over the dense forest, its silver light spilling through the trees, casting long shadows that danced like specters on the forest floor. Liana Greyson moved cautiously among the underbrush, her senses stretched to their limits. Every rustle of leaves, every distant howl of a wolf, sent a jolt of awareness through her. Being a Luna—or rather, a rejected one—meant that danger was never far away.

Once, she had been a member of the Shadowclaw Pack, a pack renowned for its strength and ferocity. Once, she had dreamed of standing beside her Alpha, commanding respect and loyalty. But those dreams had been ripped from her hands, leaving her a shadow in her own life. Now, she was an outcast, hunted by the very people she had called family, and vulnerable to predators lurking in the night.

"Stay focused, Liana," she whispered to herself, adjusting the strap of the dagger at her side. She had learned the hard way that charm, bloodline, or beauty meant nothing in a fight. Only strength mattered. And she would become strong—strong enough to survive, strong enough to make them all regret abandoning her.

A sudden rustle made her freeze. From the edge of the clearing, a figure emerged, moving silently. Tall, broad-shouldered, with muscles rippling even in the dim moonlight. His golden eyes locked on hers, and her heart skipped a beat.

"Liana Greyson," he said, voice low, commanding. "I didn't expect to see you here."

Her pulse jumped. It was him—Kael Drake, the Alpha she had once adored in secret, the one who had rejected her in favor of someone else. His reputation as ruthless and magnetic preceded him, but now, standing before her, he looked… different. More alive. Less distant.

"What do you want, Kael?" she asked, trying to keep her voice sharp, defensive. Anger and hurt she had buried for years surged to the surface.

"I'm not here to fight," he said slowly, stepping closer. "Not tonight. But you shouldn't be wandering alone. The forest is dangerous for someone like you."

"Someone like me?" Her laugh was bitter. "You mean a rejected Luna with no pack, no protection, no one to—" She stopped, noticing the slight hesitation in his gaze.

Kael's eyes softened for a fleeting moment before his Alpha mask returned. "Liana… you've always been stronger than you realize. That's why I worry."

The air between them was electric, tension crackling like lightning. Liana's instincts screamed to run, to hide—but another part of her, the part she had tried to bury, wanted to stay.

Then the ground trembled. A deep growl rolled through the forest, making her blood run cold. Shadows shifted unnaturally, and four massive wolves emerged from the darkness. Their eyes glowed with an eerie, unnatural light—wolves not of any pack she had known.

Kael's hand went to his weapon, and Liana's pulse raced. "Stay behind me," he commanded.

"I can fight!" she protested, stepping forward, but his hand on her shoulder stopped her. The contact sent a jolt through her, a strange warmth she hadn't felt in years.

"These aren't ordinary wolves," he said. "They've been cursed."

The word "cursed" sent a shiver down her spine. Memories of pack legends, forbidden magic, and past betrayals collided in her mind. Her dagger felt heavier in her hand, her senses sharper. She had to fight. If she fell, no one would come for her.

The wolves lunged. Kael moved with impossible speed, taking one down with a single, precise strike. Liana dodged another attack, spinning and slashing. Fear mixed with adrenaline, and for the first time in years, she felt fully alive.

One wolf circled her, teeth bared. Liana froze. It lunged. At the last moment, Kael slammed his hand onto her shoulder. Energy surged between them like fire. The wolf yelped, retreating as if burned by the invisible force.

Liana gasped, staring at Kael. "What… what was that?"

Kael's eyes softened. "It's stronger than I thought. The bond… it's real, Liana. Always has been."

Her mind reeled. Luna legends spoke of bonds stronger than magic, forged in blood and destiny. Could it be true? Could Kael—the Alpha who had rejected her—truly be tied to her by fate?

Before she could answer, the wolves regrouped, moving with intelligence, guarding something—or someone. The night wasn't just dangerous; it was a trap.

Kael's golden eyes met hers. "We have to move. Now."

Side by side, they ran through the forest, every step perfectly in sync. Liana's pulse raced not only from fear but from the nearness of him, from the undeniable pull of the bond between them. Every brush of his arm, every step together, made her heart ache with a longing she couldn't deny.

They leapt over roots, ducked under branches, and slid down mossy slopes. Liana felt an unfamiliar clarity—the bond guiding her movements, syncing her body with Kael's, giving her strength she hadn't realized she possessed.

Finally, they emerged into a clearing bathed in moonlight. The wolves had vanished, leaving only eerie silence. Liana sank to her knees, trembling. Kael knelt beside her, his hand brushing hers.

"You're stronger than I imagined," he said, voice low, almost tender. "And… bonded to me in a way even I didn't anticipate."

Her chest tightened. "So… this bond… what does it mean?"

Kael's eyes softened. "It means we survive together. Fight together. Feel together. The bond isn't just strength—it's a connection. Powerful, dangerous, and unbreakable."

Liana's mind whirled. The rejected Luna, the outcast, suddenly tied to the Alpha of the most powerful pack? It didn't make sense. But the memory of that jolt, the warmth, the pull she felt toward him, made her shiver.

"I… I don't know if I can trust it… or you," she whispered.

Kael's golden eyes held her gaze, steady and unwavering. "You don't have to decide yet. Just let it guide you. Let me guide you. Together, we'll face whatever comes."

The forest seemed to exhale around them. The night had been perilous, but it had revealed truths far greater than fear. Liana Greyson had survived—and discovered something far more dangerous than any curse: the bond that connected her to Kael Drake.

Her journey from rejected Luna to something extraordinary was only beginning. And Kael… whether she wanted it or not, would be inseparable from it.

The full moon glared down as if witnessing her destiny unfold. One thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again.
