Chapter 2 - Aiko Tanaka

On Monday May the 18th, at 11:36am in a large cave nestled in an underwater cliffside of the coast of Japan. An heir to the Tanaka Mafia line was born. Born with the most beautiful Blue tail that faded went from a dark blue into a light blue, gorgeous white flowy hair that faded to a soft blue hue, and the most unique eyes known to Mer kind. The left eye the colour of the most beautiful sapphire blue and the right eye the most beautiful shade of amethyst purple. This was also the day the ocean's most lethal killer was born, known as Aiko Tanaka.

At the age of five Takana's pod had to move territory. The waters around Japan had become too polluted, and therefore made the area not suitable for the pod and its survival. Well that's what Aiko was told. The move took many days, possibly even up to a week. A few people died along the way due to shark attacks or being a weak link in genetics, one of those people being her mother. Aiko never really liked her mother if she was being honest, her mother was a mer and her father was a siren. Mer's in Aiko's eyes were just inferior versions of sirens, they had no siren's voice to lead their prey to their deaths, they did not have sharp claws to tear their enemy to shreds. But they did have beauty, and the ability to swim faster than a siren. Her mother was a beautiful Mer, having a crystal white tail with soft greys on the tips. Her hair a pure white. She was stunning. Her father on the other hand was a deep blue, a common colour among sirens, his hair a similar deep blue with hints of black scattered throughout his messy locks. Overall Aiko got the best of both species, she got the beauty and speed of a Mer, but also got all the best perks of a siren. Overall making her a perfect 50/50 split of both the species.

When the pod arrived, the waters looked relatively the same as her birth waters. Clean, neat, and most importantly plenty of prey. If Aiko was being true to herself this new place could become home, it was just that her birth waters would always hold a special place in her heart.

As the years went by Aiko learnt of her family's true nature. They were the most feared Mafia group to exist, and her father was the head of the entire organisation. Having elite fighters and highly trained hackers, they were feared. Knowing this sent a rush of adrenaline through Aiko's veins, she was lucky enough to be born into the most feared Mafia group the world has ever known. Knowing of her family's history Aiko sought out to be the best member of the Tanaka family, so she could impress her father and hopefully one day take over as leader.

Three years after her declaration she asked her father about joining the family business.

"Father," Aiko asked as she swam up to her father, heart beating fast as she prepared to finally ask.

"Ahhh, Aiko, my precious ocean gem. What do you need from me?" Her father asked, opening his arms wide for a hug. Aiko returned the hug and took a deep breath to stifle her nerves.

"Father, I would like to join the family business," There was a beat of silence. Had she asked for something out of reach? Was she going to be told to wait till she was older? A million questions ran through Aiko's mind as the silence only stretched. Finally her father spoke,

"You know what, you have shown great skills and I do need a task done… How about I give you a task and if you complete it I will allow you to be a member of the Business?" Aiko stood stock still, her father was allowing her. Well not fully she had to do something first but she has a chance!

Aiko Violently nodded, buzzing in her fathers grasp. Her father chuckled lightly patting her on her head and told her what she had to do.

Aiko's task was simple, she just had to kill a traitor of her fathers who had apparently been spotted in the waters in the past few years. Her father had originally wanted to kill him when he was first spotted but reluctantly decided not to, to learn what he was up to. Her father never learnt what he was up to and had now decided that this was the perfect time to kill him. For Aiko to kill him.

Tracking the siren down was not super hard, she had found him swimming near a beach. The only hard part was deciding how to kill him. Does she slit his throat with her claws? Does she relentlessly attack and rip his heart out? Does she rip his head straight off of his body? There were so many ways she could kill him.

She finally settled on making him bleed out to death attacks to vital parts of the body. She swam over to where the beach drops off, where if you looked down you would not see any creature that lurked in the depths. She stayed there for a few minutes till the siren finally swam overhead. That was when she struck.

She bolted out from her hiding spot at a speed no siren could out swim and latched her jaws around the siren's stomach, biting down as hard as she could. The siren screamed an ugly scream, bubbles rising out of his mouth and towards the surface. He scratched back at Aiko getting a few scrapes on her, but Aiko retaliated by slashing her claws along the mers neck, letting blood taint the water. Aiko detached from the siren's stomach and lunched for the neck to deliver the final blow. She bit down with so much force that the neck nearly snapped off clean from the main body. She let go and the body slowly rose to the surface leaving behind a bloody trail. Aiko smiled to herself and swam up after the body, to see if any of the humans would see her amazing work.

She poked her head above the water and quickly scanned the beach of humans. A small smile tugged at her lips as she heard the people screaming, it soon faded away as she noticed one person not caring about what's going on. It looked to be a little human playing with the water. She looked up past the boy and locked eyes with what seemed to be an older version of the little human playing with the water. Fear took a hold of her, humans must never know of the mers and sirens, and especially the hybrid siren and mers like herself.

She ducked back under the water and swam away, leaving that moment behind her. She swam back to her home, the scrap that the now dead siren inflicted upon her stinging as she swam.

Once she reached her home she went straight to her father and told him the news,

"He's dead"

She swam into the den, it was unusually quiet for Tanaka den, usually there were sirens swimming in and out of the den discussing hit lists, what other Mafia groups were up to and even discussing trade between other siren pods and even some mer pods. Even though sirens and mer did not get along very well, they still maintained a decent enough relationship where the two species traded items and even mated when mating season came around, although it was rare for the species to make it does happen.

She slowly swam further into the den, hands raised in front of her ready to attack anything that could possibly attack her. She made way to the large rock table in the middle of the den and found a small kelp letter on it.

It read:

To our sweet daughter Aiko,

We had to move away from this area as a larger pod of sirens invaded our home. We would have told you in person but we had to move away asap and no one knew where you went. As we were leaving we heard the leader of the group yell

"find the daughter of the boss. Aiko,"

we would have turned around and fought them but they were a larger group than ours and were much stronger than us. For your safety I recommend you turn into a human and live on land to be safe, there is no way any of us, let alone yourself could fight them off and reclaim our territory. I know you're going to want to track them down if you found this letter, but don't! You will get yourself killed, and I can't have my only child die on me.

Love,

Your Father.

Aiko balled her fists and punched the cave wall. How dare another pod invade her fathers territory, her territory! She angrily swam in circles until she realised something. She stopped swimming in circles, pausing as the realization dawned on her. She had to go live on land. The ocean was no longer safe for her. She had to leave her home.

She had to go, she had to go now. Darting towards her small room in the den she grabbed a small fishnet bag and stuffed the essentials inside. A small knife that she had found one day in an abandoned ship, her two birth gems, a saphire and a polished Amethyst crystal, and a few foods for her journey to the land.

After she was leaving her room, she spotted the letter on the table where she must have dropped it in her hurry to leave. But there was also something else with the letter that she must have not noticed when she came in. A small necklace, with what seemed to be half of a shell attached to it.

Aiko questioned it at first but then realised it was her fathers, It was the necklace that her father had told her was a family heirloom. She gingerly picked it up and tied in around her neck, she ran her fingers over the shell, It was smooth yet rough. It was a beautiful shell, all the colours of the sea entwined with the lines. It was a shame that she had no idea where the other half of the shell was, as it would be even more stunning than it already was.

Aiko also grabbed the letter her father left behind and tucked it neatly inside her bag and swam off towards the outskirts of her home.

Once she reached the border of her home she turned around to take one last look at the home she has known for a majority of her life. And now she was leaving it all behind to start a new life. A new life all on her own, with little knowledge of humans.

Turning back around she swam off towards her new life, leaving her old one behind to one day become a faint memory.
