"Why did I come back?" Sael looked at the ceiling and repeated, making a thinking face.
After a while, he once again looked back down and asked. "Where would I go, If I were to run?"
He said it simply with an almost nonchalant attitude. As if it was nothing serious of a matter.
Ishiki's lips twitched, but he controlled and didn't say anything.
"Outside this cave is the outer prison. Outside the prison is the city and outside the city are the mountains." Sael looked at his chained wrists. "And outside the mountains is nothing. Demons and dead ground and whatever the gods left when they died." A pause. "I have been dragged back three times. The fourth time I tried to leave through the gate itself and they had sixteen people on me before I cleared even the city." There was no bitterness in it. "There is nowhere to go. So I came back."
"I just hope they just kill me soon." He added, in a tone that felt like longing.
