And standing there, watching her look up at him with quiet confusion, he realized he didn't quite know how to explain that without saying too much.

She stood up immediately and followed him outside. He had paid earlier, so there was nothing tying her to the table anymore. The cool air hit her face as she stepped out and stopped a few feet away, watching him pace slightly while finishing the call.
He ended it just as he reached the car door.

He froze, then turned around, clearly surprised to see her standing there.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
