She hesitated, then sighed inwardly.
"What's wrong?" she finally asked, breaking a silence she had sworn not to touch unless absolutely necessary.
The question surprised her more than it surprised him.
She hadn't planned to care.
Chibuzor, on the other hand, wasn't shocked that she noticed. He had grown used to it by now. After almost six months together, she could read his mood with unsettling accuracy, dissecting it layer by layer, just like a practical experiment.
And this time, she had caught the change perfectly.
"It just feels… weird," he said at last. "The waitress saying this is your ex fiancé's and your favourite spot."
He paused, then added carefully, twisting it back to the contract the way he always did when his feelings got too close to the surface.
"I mean, would that affect her opinion of us?"
