But the blush stayed.
And this time, it was real.
Somehow, she actually enjoyed the compliment.
Maybe it was simply the comfort of knowing she looked good. Maybe it was nothing more than that. After all, this wasn't the first time she had been complimented in her life. She wasn't a diva. Praise didn't usually affect her.
But it still did, to some extent.
Who doesn't like to be admired?
And yet…
Those compliments had never made her feel this way.
The feeling was uncomfortably familiar. Too familiar.
It reminded her of how she used to feel whenever Maduabuchi praised her, warm, light, slightly unsteady. The kind of feeling that settled quietly in her chest before she noticed it.
She didn't like that comparison.
There was no time to analyze it anyway. No reason to.
This was just a man complimenting a woman. Genuinely. Nothing more.
Right?
"Shall we?" Chibuzor asked, offering his arm.
She nodded once.
"Let's."
