Chapter 64 - Chapter : 64 "A Heartbeat in Freefall"

The SUV ground to a halt, the heavy tint of its windows catching the gray light.

Jane, Jesper, and Leon all blinked in unison, their eyes widening as the driver's side door swung open and Joshua stepped out into the damp air. He let out a loud, dramatic groan, throwing his arms toward the sky to stretch his tight muscles after a long, high-stakes drive.

Simultaneously, the right side of the door clicked open. Zephyr stepped out onto the asphalt, his entire aura radiating a familiar, sub-zero chill. Yet, the absolute moment his sharp eyes locked onto Jesper, his icy composure faltered. He abruptly averted his gaze, looking down at the pavement. Jesper, catching the sudden shift, mirrored the movement instantly, his elegant fingers smoothing over his coat as he slowly turned his head away, an thick, unspoken tension crackling between alpha and Omega.

Breaking the bizarre silence, Jane took a sharp step forward, her hands landing on her hips. "Wait, wait, wait! Of all this time, where the hell were you two?"

Joshua flashed a sharp, triumphant grin, his eyes gleaming with exhaustion and victory.

"Consider the work finally done," Joshua announced, his voice carrying an arrogant, heavy satisfaction.

Isidore watched the exchange in utter disbelief, his mind fracturing further under the sheer absurdity of the unfolding scene. Leon and Jesper stood equally paralyzed, trying to piece together the sudden arrival. Joshua took a long stride forward, stopping right in front of Tristan. He tilted his head down, a proud smirk playing on his lips.

"Finally, I saved you, brother," Joshua said, clapping a heavy hand onto the alpha's uninjured shoulder.

Tristan didn't celebrate. Instead, his crystalline blue eyes slowly turned toward Isidore.

Isidore's chest heaved with a dangerous, erratic rhythm. He was so intensely confused, trapped in a labyrinth of secrets and forced confessions that made absolutely no sense to his fractured reality.

Who had tied up Ansel Adams? What did Joshua mean by saving his brother?

But before anyone could offer a single shred of a real explanation, the screech of burning rubber tore through the VIP lane.

Another vehicle slammed to a brutal stop directly behind the black SUV. Every head snapped toward the new intrusion as the driver's door was violently flung open.

From the interior emerged Zayn.

The moment the man's figure materialized, Leon's breath caught. He instantly looked away, his jaw locking as he stared pointedly at the brick wall across the lane, pretending with every fiber of his being that he hadn't seen the man arrive.

But Isidore couldn't look away. The very moment his beige eyes locked onto Zayn, the blood in his veins boiled over into pure, unmitigated fury.

Zayn looked completely unraveled. His high-society perfection was gone; he was utterly frantic, his striking periwinkle hair messy and windblown, falling wildly over his panicked face. He looked like a man who had raced through hell just to reach this specific curb.

Joshua's eyes widened at the sight of the disheveled newcomer. A slow, deeply mocking smirk spread across his face, his posture instantly shifting into something incredibly cocky and teasing as he prepared to vocalize a sharp jibe.

"Davenant..." Zayn breathed out, his voice a ragged, breathless gasp that shook with an agonizing mix of terror and desperation as his eyes locked onto Isidore.

The syllable had barely left Zayn's trembling lips before the air around them turned razor-sharp.

Isidore whipped his head away, his breath hitching as an overwhelming, searing rage surged through his veins. Every inch of his body went rigid under the damp London sky, his beige eyes blazing with an uncompromising hostility that made the surrounding space feel dangerously thin.

Zayn took a frantic, uneven step forward, his disheveled periwinkle hair falling messily over his pale, panicked face. He reached out, his hands hovering helplessly in the cold air between them as if trying to catch a falling glass.

"I am sorry, Davenant... I didn't mean to do any of this on purpose," Zayn stammered, his voice raw, stripped entirely of its usual high-society composure. "I was only trying to—"

"Shut your pathetic mouth up!" Isidore snapped, cutting him off with a lethal, icy venom.

The command struck the VIP driveway like a physical impact.

Around them, the perimeter flinched. Jane quickly averted her gaze, nervously pretending she wasn't witnessing the unraveling. Beside her, Tristan stood paralyzed, a sharp pang of guilt twisting inside his chest. He knew that Zayn was taking the brunt of this fury because of the tangled Web of choices he had set in motion.

A sheen of unshed tears welled in Zayn's eyes. He stood exposed, his hands still trembling in mid-air, completely helpless before the Omega's wrath.

From the side of the matte-black SUV, Joshua quickly brought a hand over his mouth, smothering a low, dark laugh as he openly enjoyed the spectacle of the pristine Zayn being torn apart.

Isidore took a sharp, volatile breath, his chest heaving under his light coat. "I will never forgive you."

A collective, quiet gasp rippled through the onlookers.

Isidore took two heavy steps forward, closing the distance between them until he was invading Zayn's space. "You told this bastard that I was leaving London with my son," Isidore hissed, his voice dropping into a lethal thread. "Is that correct?!"

Zayn's shoulders caved inward. He slowly lowered his head, unable to hold the blinding fire in Isidore's eyes, and gave a single, agonized nod.

Before Zayn could formulate an apology, Isidore's hands snapped forward, grabbing the lapels of Zayn's designer coat in a white-knuckled grip.

"How could you do this to me, Zayn?!" Isidore shouted, his voice cracking under the weight of a profound betrayal. "I trusted you! I trusted you so much, and you—you teamed up with everyone else just to stop me from running away!"

Zayn didn't pull back. Instead, he slowly, gently placed his hands over Isidore's wrist, his touch light, almost reverent.

"But Davenant... you didn't do anything wrong," Zayn pleaded softly, his voice shaking. "Why would you leave London? Why would you run when you are completely innocent?!"

Isidore sneered, his lips curling into a bitter, dangerous line as he shoved Zayn backward without letting go of the fabric.

"And I am well aware of that!" Isidore spat, his eyes wide and wild with a spiked blood pressure that made his vision blur at the edges. "I don't care if people think I'm a villain! I don't care about anyone's opinion in this wretched world—I only care about my child!"

His heart was hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird, his breathing becoming dangerously shallow and rapid.

"It's unfair to you..." Zayn whispered, his eyes searching Isidore's pale, strained face.

The observers could only watch in tense silence. A few paces away, Leon nervously scratched the back of his neck, his mismatched eyes downcast as a heavy, aching pity settled in his chest.

He felt too involved, too deeply entangled in a tragedy he couldn't fix.

"I never meant anything wrong..." Leon breathed softly to himself, his voice lost in the hum of the idling engines.

For Tristan, every ragged breath Isidore took felt like a blade twisting into his own heart. The sheer horror of the situation pressed down on his shoulders—if Isidore had truly been the cold, calculating villain the press claimed, he could let him be, but looking at him now—so utterly innocent, so entirely broken, fighting the world with the last fragile remnants of his strength—it tore Tristan's soul to shreds.

Holding his sleeping son securely in his left arm, Tristan took a few slow, hesitant steps forward.

"Isidore..." Tristan pleaded gently, his voice dropping into a soft, melodic murmur. "Calm down, dear..."

Isidore snapped his head toward the Alpha, his eyes flashing with pure, unadulterated hostility at the affection in the title.

"I will!" Isidore choked out, his grip on Zayn loosenin, "I will calm down... if you return my child to me! I want my child back in my arms right now!"

Zayn's eyes widened in sudden panic as he noticed the unnatural flush creeping across Isidore's neck and the gray pallor taking over his skin. "Davenant, please—"

"Isidore, he is perfectly fine and sleeping,"

Tristan interjected desperately, his own heart racing as he watched the Omega's body shake violently. "You need to calm down first—"

"I won't calm down until—until—"

Isidore's words caught in his throat. The world tilted violently on its axis. The roaring in his ears grew deafening, his heart beating with a rapid, erratic rhythm that starved his brain of oxygen.

Without warning, his knees buckled.

Zayn reacted instantly, his arms shooting out to catch the Omega before he could strike the wet pavement. Isidore's head lolled heavily against Zayn's shoulder, his body suddenly limp, his strength entirely spent.

"Davenant!" Zayn cried out, his voice laced with pure terror as he wrapped his arms around Isidore's waist to support his full weight.

"Give... give back my child..." Isidore whispered, his voice fading into a thread of air as his long eyelashes trembled and fell shut. "...give back my Julian..."

Just as the darkness fully claimed him, Isidore felt the sudden, frantic shift of air. Through the terrifying blur of his failing consciousness, he caught sight of Tristan's massive silhouette lunging forward, his small son still clutched tightly in the alpha's strong arm.

With the absolute last ounce of strength remaining in his collapsing body, Isidore jerked his head away, burying his face directly into the fabric of Zayn's shoulder.

"Don't... touch me," Isidore choked out, the words barely a rasp against Zayn's coat.

Tristan heard the rejection clearly, the short sentence cutting through him deeper than any blade. But a man driven by pure panic could not afford pride. Ignoring the venom, Tristan stepped directly into Zayn's space, his trembling hand shooting out to gently press his palm against Isidore's pale, clammy cheek.

Unbidden moisture gathered in the corners of Tristan's crystalline blue eyes, blurring his vision as he stared down at the unconscious Omega.

"Isidore... forgive me," Tristan choked out, his voice stripped completely of its composure. "Please... forgive me..."

"His blood pressure has spiked again!" Zayn barked, his arms tightening around Isidore's limp frame as he tried to support his weight. "We need to get him to the hospital immediately!"

Jane stepped up behind her brother, her hand coming down firmly onto Tristan's back to anchor him. "Brother, leave the child to me," she commanded swiftly. "You go after him."

Tristan turned his head slowly toward her, his gaze vacant with terror. As he turned, Jane caught the unmistakable shine of tears reflecting against his eyelashes. She gasped softly, her high-society demeanor cracking in genuine shock.

"Oh my gosh... you're crying, brother?" Jane breathed, her lips parting.

Tristan instantly snapped his face away, furiously brushing his knuckle against his eye. "I'm not," he muttered, his voice raspy and tight. "It's just the wind... getting in my eyes."

Jane let out a quiet, knowing hum, her tone softening into a gentle, affectionate tease despite the chaotic driveway. "Come on, brother. You can barely breathe without him."

She gently reached out, resting her hands beneath little Julian's sleeping form. "Now leave the child to me. I swear he won't even realize he's in new arms. Just go with him."

Tristan hesitated for a fraction of a second, his heart tearing as he looked down at his sleeping son. Slowly, reverently, he transferred the boy's weight into Jane's arms. The moment the child was safely secured against her chest, Jane offered a soft, reassuring smile.

"Now go enjoy your chaotic rescue, brother," Jane murmured.

Tristan barely registered her words. He turned on his heel and rushed toward the waiting vehicle.

Without a second thought, Tristan threw open the door and climbed directly into the back seat. Jesper was already inside, having efficiently coordinated with Zayn, while Leon sat in the front passenger seat with his head downcast.

Tristan looked across the plush leather interior to where Isidore lay unconscious, his head resting heavily against Jesper's shoulder as the elegant omega held his wrist to monitor his erratic pulse.

Jesper glanced up, meeting Tristan's desperate blue eyes. "Are you coming along as well, Mr. Tristan?"

Tristan offered a single, sharp nod.

Jesper's lips curved into a quiet, reassuring line. "Then let us go."
