The morning sun filtered through the forest canopy as Herbert tousled his nephew's dark hair one final time. Orion's blue eyes, so similar to his own, sparkled with stubborn determination.
"I don't want to leave," the young boy declared, crossing his small arms defiantly. "Can't I stay with you longer?"
Herbert couldn't suppress his chuckle. The boy had spent weeks with him, away from the structured life of his parents' pack where his father served as Alpha and his mother as Luna. Here in Herbert's territory, Orion had discovered freedom and adventure that only his favorite uncle could provide.
"Your schooling can't wait forever," Herbert replied, lifting the boy effortlessly into his strong arms. "Besides, you're going to lead your own pack someday. That means responsibility, training, and yes, education."
Orion's pout deepened. "When will I see you again?"
