Chapter 1 - The Disaster

CHAPTER ONE

"As the state elections approach, we sadly announce the death of Chief Kehinde Kolapo. The People's Representative Party (PRP) flag bearer was reported dead an hour ago just at the conclusion of the mega party he held at his home in Kennedy Avenue to celebrate his victory in the party's primary election. Chief Kolapo was said to have been murdered by some unidentified gunmen alongside his wife, family, and four others who were family friends. This sad event comes just immediately after the family had a double win, with Chief Kolapo emerging as the PRP gubernatorial candidate and his son, Moses, gaining appointment as the state Commissioner of Police."

"We've also gathered reports that the celebration in honour of Moses held at Elora Hotel has come to an end with the news of his father's death." The voice of the newscaster echoed in the broadcast as the atmosphere became gloomy.

"The PRP, using their social handles, has pointed an accusing finger at their rival party, the Action Congress Party. According to the chairman, Chief Segun Ayodele, "the death of Kolapo was a well-calculated move carried out in this kairos moment to disrupt the progress of the PRP and to take out the party's guaranteed ticket to the gubernatorial seat and they won't be silent but will rather see to it that justice is served to the culprits."

"The Action Congress Party, in return, have also dismissed the claims made by the PRP Chairman, calling it a baseless accusation without any facts to back it up and went on to console the surviving member of Kolapo's family, Moses Kolapo, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police."

"From the headquarters, the state police have swung into action and have promised to bring the perpetrators to book." Stay tuned with us for updates as the case unfolds. Thank you for joining us for the news broadcast. I remain, Sandra Williams.

The Elora Hotel atmosphere was something else as music echoed all over the event room. Earlier in the day, Moses was promoted to be the State Police Commissioner following his remarkable services and achievements in the force.

He never wanted a public show to be held on his behalf, besides his intent was to spend the day with his father as he celebrated his victory as his party's flag bearer in the upcoming gubernatorial election. However, his friends and colleagues had a different plan for him and secretly organised a huge party to celebrate his milestone at Elora Hotel. He had no choice but to be there.

It was a warming celebration as his wife and two children were there to celebrate with him, alongside his best friends, Daniel Nnamdi and Ibrahim Hassan, whose wives and three children also turned up for the massive event. They had a great time together before Moses dismissed them to go join his father, promising to be home soon. Hassan also sent his family along, with the intention to catch up with them at the Kolapos' home.

It was barely an hour after their departure before the news of Chief Kolapo and his family's death, as well as Hassan's wife and children, broke out in the news.

There was a deafening silence in the event hall as the news broke out. The celebration immediately came to an end. Moses was too cold to speak, as well as Hassan; Daniel had to console them and then drove them home. Hassan made a vow to discover the culprits who were behind the death of his family and to see it to the end.

It's been seven years since Hassan and Moses became friends. Their friendship has blossomed as the years go by. They met while working to crack a case. Hassan, a private investigator was able to unravel the case just when the police were giving up on the investigation. His demure won him a place in the heart of Moses and they connected. Their friendship also extended to official business as they partnered in cracking tough cases.

Reflecting on his past records in investigating cases, Hassan looked forward to discovering the killers of his family.
