I straightened immediately, avoiding his gaze. Then I stepped away from Mila, who was still sobbing softly.
Dominic's gaze locked onto mine, and for a moment, I braced myself, expecting him to say something about last night, something that would humiliate me right here in front of everyone.
But he didn't. He said nothing, continued to watch me in that unnerving way.
The silence stretched between us, thick and uncomfortable, with Mila, the boys, and Jason all watching, waiting.
"Um…" Jason cleared his throat, letting out an awkward laugh. "Well?"
I ignored him. This wasn't the time for a joke. I needed to leave.
I took a step forward. Then another.
And when Dominic still didn't move, didn't try to stop me, I reached out and took hold of Rowan and Julian.
I gripped their arms, and said to Nico, "We're going home."
I expected an easy response. A yes, Mama. Excitement. Relief. Children who had missed me.
