Chapter 1 - Shadows in the Glass

In the beginning I don't believe in magic or faith. I don't feel special I just seem like a normal child when I found an adopted by a middle class family , yes I am adopted .my name is Laina and this is story of how my whole world change within a week .

It was one day before my 18th birthday it same completely normal I wake up early, take cold shower , brush my teeth and I wear a red crop top and a baggy that's are my favourite clothes which make my Blue Eyes and Golden hair more stunning I Ran downstairs to the kitchen where I can smell sweets pancake and hot chocolate milk

Where I saw the my adopted parents waiting for me with my boyfriend James

James and I were best friends since middle school bit I always been in love with him he had light brown hair and emerald green eyes .He was so king and sweet

After breakfast me and James walk to the school when me and James enter the classroom we both sits our respective seats then our teacher 'Mr Hamel' said "students I introduced you to your new classmate Lucas", "welcome Lucas" ,he said

Lucas slowly walked into the classroom. His steps were quiet but strangely heavy, as though the air itself grew thicker around him. He had raven-black hair that almost touched his shoulders and deep gray eyes that seemed to hold storms inside them. When his gaze met mine, a strange chill ran down my spine, and for a moment I felt like he could see through me, into the very core of my soul.

"Lucas just transferred from another state," Mr. Hamel continued. "I expect you all to welcome him warmly."

James leaned closer to me and whispered, "Weird vibes already, don't you think?" He gave a small laugh, but I couldn't find it funny. Something about Lucas made my heart pound—not in excitement, but in warning.

Lucas sat in the empty seat two rows behind me. I tried to focus on the lesson, but every time I glanced back, I found his eyes on me. Not in the casual way people glance, but in a piercing, unblinking stare.

During lunch, James dragged me to the cafeteria. "You're too tense," he said. "It's just a new student."

But when we entered, Lucas was already there, sitting alone at the farthest table. No one dared to sit near him. His presence was like a shadow stretching across the room, swallowing the noise and laughter around him.

And then it happened. As I walked past with James, Lucas suddenly said, without looking up, "Happy early birthday, Laina."

I froze. My tray almost slipped from my hands. I had never told him my name, let alone my birthday. James frowned. "How does he know that?"

I turned to Lucas, but he only gave the faintest smile before returning his gaze to the untouched food in front of him.

For the rest of the day, unease clung to me. I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was beginning—something I wasn't ready for.

That night, as I stood in front of the mirror brushing my hair, I saw something that made my blood run cold. For a fraction of a second, the reflection wasn't mine. The girl in the glass had my golden hair and blue eyes, but her face was twisted in fear—and behind her stood a dark crown glowing faintly, as if waiting.

I dropped the brush, heart hammering.

The shadows in the glass whispered my name.
