When I saw he didn't answer, I continued:
"The other day, I saw a few old ducks that looked quite plump."
Fat Bang looked at me with a complicated expression:
"I know, I was planning to bring one over for you in a few days."
I thought for a moment, then replied:
"Hmm, I'll come get it myself some day then."
Seeing Bang's dejected look, Khang looked pleased and curiously asked me:
"What do you need an old duck for? Shouldn't you get the little ducklings?"
I adjusted his conical hat to sit a little straighter on his head:
"You'll find out when the time comes. Now, give me the hoe."
Khang didn't ask any more questions and handed me the hoe. I took his wrist and said thoughtfully:
"I'm going to clear out some of the drainage ditches. Be careful on your own, don't overdo it."
Khang smiled. He looked a bit disheveled, but his spirits were high:
"Don't worry."
I nodded, called out to Bang, and then turned to walk toward the edge of the field.
