The rhythmic echo of footsteps broke the silence of the Chitanda household.
Tap—tap.
Two figures appeared at the entrance to the main living room.
One was Chitanda Eru, her usual brightness returning to her face, and the other was the infamous white-haired disaster himself—Gojo Satoru.
Eru's complexion was still a little pale, but the lively energy that defined her had returned.
Behind her, Gojo walked in, hands in his pockets, wearing that lazy, carefree expression that somehow managed to be both irritating and charming at the same time.
"Dad, Mom!" Eru called out happily. Her voice, once weak and hoarse, was now clear and full of life.
Chitanda Tadayo's eyes widened in surprise, almost not believing what he was seeing.
His daughter had been weak for days, and now she looked like she could run a marathon.
His eyes then shifted toward the tall man behind her. Gojo gave him a polite smile that somehow looked like it came from someone who'd never been polite in his life.
(T/N: Yes, even i was shocked)
Could this man… be my daughter's boyfriend?
Tadayo's expression stiffened, and his mind started racing. White hair, handsome face, that confident smirk… No, no, this was bad. Way too bad.
Just as Eru was about to explain, Gojo spoke first, saving her from her father's inevitable overthinking.
"I'm Chitanda-san's homeroom teacher at Sobu High," he said casually, as if reading Tadayo's thoughts and deciding to diffuse them before things got awkward. "I heard she was sick, so I came to check up on her. Teacher's duty, you know?"
The relief that spread over Tadayo's face was instant.
"Ah, so you're Eru's teacher! I see, I see. Thank you for going out of your way, Gojo-sensei. Please, please, have a seat."
His sudden warmth was almost comical.
A moment ago, he looked ready to pull out a shotgun; now, he was acting like Gojo was an honored guest.
His wife gave him a knowing look that said, 'you were about to interrogate him five seconds ago.'
Eru just smiled awkwardly.
Somehow, this felt exactly like something Gojo would do—walk in, confuse everyone, and make himself comfortable without trying.
As the atmosphere began to settle, Tadayo cleared his throat and turned toward the other person sitting gracefully on the tatami floor.
She wore traditional shrine maiden attire, her dark hair falling over her shoulders like silk.
Her calm expression gave her a quiet but powerful presence.
"Eru," Tadayo said, gesturing toward her, "this is Miss Kikyo, a very skilled shrine maiden. She came to help heal your spiritual ailment."
Eru bowed politely. "Hello, Miss Kikyo."
Kikyo nodded slightly, her gaze calm yet sharp.
But after a brief moment of looking at the girl, her expression subtly changed.
Her brow furrowed ever so slightly.
Tadayo noticed immediately, his fatherly instincts kicking in, as he asked, his voice filled with concern. "Is something wrong, Miss Kikyo?"
Kikyo remained quiet for a moment before answering in her usual composed tone.
"Miss Chitanda, do you feel better than before? It appears that your condition has already… improved greatly."
Her voice was smooth, elegant, but there was a hint of curiosity beneath the surface.
Eru blinked, thinking for a second before nodding hesitantly.
"Now that you mention it… yes. I actually do feel much better than before."
Indeed, when she woke up earlier in Gojo-sensei's arms, her weakness had vanished completely.
She thought it might've been her imagination, but now that she paid attention… she truly felt fine.
More than fine, in fact. She felt alive again.
Kikyo stood up slowly, adjusting the white cloth that wrapped around her bow and arrows.
"It seems someone has already healed her before I arrived," she said, her tone steady but thoughtful. "Still, I'll stay here tonight, just in case anything unusual happens again."
"Someone cured her… before you?" Tadayo looked bewildered. His gaze went back to Eru. "Eru, did you meet anyone else recently?"
"I… I don't know…" Eru said softly, her voice a mix of confusion and guilt.
But her large violet eyes couldn't help sneaking a glance toward Gojo, who was sitting lazily nearby, scrolling through his phone as if this entire situation was none of his concern.
He occasionally smiled at the screen, probably texting that scary teacher from Sobu—Hiratsuka Shizuka.
Her heart skipped a beat.
The one person she'd been closest to before recovering… was Gojo-sensei.
Could it be that… he's the one who healed me?
Eru's cheeks turned slightly red at the thought.
But before she could dwell on it, Gojo stood up and casually excused himself.
"I'll be heading back now. Glad to see you're feeling better, Chitanda-san. Keep resting, alright?"
"Ah—Gojo-sensei!" Eru called out, but he only waved lazily without turning back.
Once he was gone, she sighed softly. "Gojo-sensei… you're really mysterious."
...
Outside the Chitanda courtyard,
Eru found him again.
After talking with her parents and excusing herself, as she had followed him halfway down the street before finally gathering the courage to speak.
"Gojo-sensei," she said seriously, puffing her cheeks a little, "was it you? The one who Miss Kikyo said healed me? I want to know!"
Gojo didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he looked down at her with that familiar grin and ruffled her hair gently.
"You're thinking too hard, Chitanda-san. Just focus on getting better."
"Sensei, that's not an answer!" she protested, her voice turning slightly pouty. "Tell me!"
"Good students go home early," Gojo said with a teasing smirk. "Bye-bye, Chitanda-san."
"Gojo-sensei, I hate you!" she yelled, puffing up her cheeks like an angry pufferfish as he walked away.
But even as he disappeared into the distance, she couldn't help smiling. "I'll find out your secret one day, Gojo-sensei… I swear it."
...
Gojo walked along the dimly lit road, not teleporting for once.
He seemed to be enjoying the cool night breeze, his mind wandering as he slipped his hands deeper into his pockets.
After turning into a narrow alley, he leaned against a wall, that lazy smirk still on his lips.
"It's really flattering to be followed by a cute girl," he muttered to himself, his tone light and mocking. "But if she keeps this up, I might have to call the police."
A quiet moment passed before a voice spoke from behind him.
"You're an Onmyoji, aren't you?"
Gojo turned his head slightly, his blindfold reflecting the faint light.
Standing a few feet away was Kikyo, still in her shrine maiden outfit, bow and arrow in hand, her expression calm but serious.
Gojo blinked, amused.
"An Onmyoji, huh? Haven't heard that in a while. Why do you ask?"
Kikyo looked hesitant.
"Because your energy feels different. I've never seen a person with such power before. I… I've lived most of my life on the mountain, training alone. I thought I was one of the few who could use spiritual power."
Gojo tilted his head, pretending to think.
"You mean you've never heard of the Yin-Yang Bureau? Or the Exorcist Union?"
Her eyes widened slightly.
"The… Yin and Yang Bureau?"
Gojo stared at her blankly. "You don't know?"
Kikyo shook her head. "I… don't."
He sighed dramatically. "Wow. You really are a mountain girl."
Her calm expression twitched.
"Excuse me?"
"I mean—how do you not know about the Yin and Yang Bureau? It's literally filled with Onmyoji and exorcists running around pretending they're saving the world."
His voice was teasing but oddly serious beneath the sarcasm.
"Though honestly, it's more like a bunch of people fighting over spiritual energy and resources. If you're not careful, someone will scam you into signing a contract or joining some weird clan."
Kikyo's brows furrowed. "So the world has become that corrupt?"
Gojo shrugged.
"Eh, it's been like that for a while. The higher-ups bicker, the rookies fight, and the paperwork never ends. Classic life."
Kikyo folded her arms, thinking deeply.
"I see… So much has changed."
Gojo grinned, clearly entertained. "You're really serious about this, huh? Cute."
Her expression turned cold again.
"You're mocking me."
"Not at all," Gojo said, smiling even wider. "Just… impressed. Anyway, take care, Miss Shrine Maiden. Don't get lost on your way back to the mountain."
Before she could respond, he snapped his fingers — and disappeared.
The alley fell silent, leaving Kikyo standing there with a faint frown.
"What a strange man," she murmured.
And somewhere, far away, Gojo Satoru laughed quietly to himself.
"Heh… strange, huh? I'll take that as a compliment."
