Chapter 3 - Enthusiastic Responses

Katsura owned no bricks or tiles in Konoha, no family, no home. After joining the ANBU, he was tasked with overseeing its chores, so he lived there.

He had three days off, and couldn't stay there any longer. What if the ANBU had a mission, and the captain saw Katsura there and ruined his vacation?

Katsura changed into ordinary clothes, feeling extremely stealthy as he left the ANBU's Death Forest, wandering through Konoha.

He paused, turning to gaze at the nearby Hokage Rock. The faces of the First, Second and Third Hokage were so enormous they gave him a sense of oppression.

The closer he got to the base of the Rock, the closer he got to the Hokage Building, the more oppressive the massive heads became.

This village lacked the youthful energy of the original manga, only the oppression of death.

Like Kakashi in the original manga, everyone suffered from some degree of mental illness after the deaths of their teammates, teachers, and friends. This was a village where everyone was mentally ill.

During the Second Shinobi World War, most ninjas were on the front lines, and Konoha Village was somewhat desolate.

After wandering aimlessly for half an hour, Katsura decided to find a cheap hotel to stay in.

"Where's my wallet?"

As he reached for his money, he realized it wasn't in his ninja bag.

Thinking it over, Katsura concluded it could only have been left at the Izakaya, so he went looking for it.

Outside the izakaya, the plump and beautiful female owner had just gone to the corner to throw away the trash. Seeing the ninja from last night approaching in the distance, her teeth chattered with nervousness.

It was over. Had her spy identity been exposed? The handsome young man from last night had stabbed his spy teammate to death.

To prevent leaking information after his death, his teammate had never met her or seen his face, so why was he still exposed?

What should she do? The female owner pretended not to notice and turned back to the izakaya.

Gripping a sharp fruit knife tightly, the female owner sliced lemons at the bar.

Seeing Katsura sitting in front of her, the female boss looked up and said, "Would you like another pot of sake?"

"Give me back my wallet so I can afford the sake."

"Huh?"

The female boss stared at the Konoha ninja in surprise, her grip on the fruit knife tightening and loosening. He wasn't here to arrest her?

"What are you staring at? Give me back my wallet!"

"Wallet? What wallet?"

Looking for a wallet? The excuse was too outrageous to be true. After all the ups and downs, the female boss's chest was filled with joy, its heaving.

Katsura jumped off his high chair and headed to the side, heading straight for the backyard. But the female boss stopped him.

"Sir! The backyard is under renovation. You can't go in!"

The female boss was terrified. When she woke up last night, the room was empty. Her teammates underground had vanished, and so had the handsome guest. She tried to contact her spy teammates through unique means, but received no response.

There was a patch of different color on the ground, as if someone had dug something out of the ground and then returned to the surface.

Katsura pushed aside the female boss's hand and entered the backyard, only to find that the backyard was indeed under renovation. The floor tiles were all flipped over, and I had no idea what needed repairing.

"I told you they were doing some repairs. Here's how it goes, sir. Go upstairs and rest. I'll go to the backyard and look for your wallet." The female proprietress wrapped her arms around Katsura's arm.

"I recognized you. You were my guest from last night! Why was I unconscious? Why did you leave? Didn't you say you were going to discuss Yin Style and Yang Style?"

"You fell last night, hit your head on the ground, and passed out. I like lively responses, not dull ones."

Katsura's arms, framed by plump flesh, ascended the second floor. He asked, "What's your name?"

"Chuubo Shokyo."

Sitting in a private room on the second floor, Katsura said, "Shokyo, I have 150,000 ryo in my wallet. You must find my wallet and return it to me!"

Konoha ninjas were notoriously poorly paid. After a month of missions in the Anbu, frantically testing the limits of life, he had only earned 100,000 ryo. The remaining 50,000 ryo was the balance he had demanded from the captain last night.

Shokyo went downstairs to look for it. She searched the backyard, the side rooms, and every table and chair, but couldn't find the wallet. Going upstairs again, Shokyo composed her expression and entered the private room with a seductive glare.

"Ninja-sama, I really can't find my wallet. How foolish of me to have guessed only now? You didn't come here looking for your wallet, did you? Even if I can't find it, I can compensate you with something else."

Shokyo, knowing that Katsura liked to respond enthusiastically, resorted to all means.

In the large izakaya hall on the first floor, the first table of lunchtime customers arrived for drinks. After more than ten minutes, the guest looked up. Dust fell from the wooden planks above his head. The floorboards creaked.

Twenty minutes later, the door of the private room on the second floor opened. Shokyo put the shoulder straps back on her shoulders, panted, and closed the door.

Inside the door, Katsura, who was lying lazily on the bed, said: "You said you lost my wallet and let me stay here for three days!"

"I will definitely compensate you for your loss in various ways."

Katsura was satisfied and dozed off on the bed. He was still young and inexperienced. He didn't feel weak or trembling last night. It was good. It was good to be strong.

Three days later, Shokyo said goodbye to Katsura at the door with a broken heart. This Konoha ninja was so tight-lipped. In three days, she didn't get a single word out of him. The floorboards of the izakaya had been reinforced once.

Are the Konoha ninjas so good at keeping secrets? But she was sure that the handsome ninja was not here to check on her.

Katsura returned to the Anbu under the cover of night. After entering the Anbu, he saw his wallet in his locker! He picked up the wallet in astonishment. How could the wallet be here? He was very careful and cautious. When he left the Anbu three days ago, there was definitely no wallet in the locker!

The captain's voice suddenly came from behind him, and the captain appeared at some point.

"Fox, I took my 50,000 taels and gave you 100,000 taels as a reward for the B-level mission. That means you now have 200,000 taels in your wallet. Count them."

It doesn't matter whether he counts or not. Katsura just wants to know, why is that beautiful female boss Chuubo Shokyo so enthusiastic these days...ah...huh? Wait, the female boss is too enthusiastic towards him, a little too enthusiastic.

Is she a spy? Never mind, whether she is a spy or not has nothing to do with him. That is Konoha's business, not his.

Even if Konoha destroys the village, it has nothing to do with him.

Female spies are good. Female spies must investigate frequently and conduct in-depth investigations.

The captain said: "Let's go and carry out the mission. The spy we brought back is from the Hidden Rock Village. We have to follow the clues to find out more information."

Katsura put on a fox mask and sighed behind the mask.

Last time, a team also went to follow the clues to find out more info, but they all died. The spies who dared to operate in the Hidden Leaf Village all have some strength.

After putting on the Anbu iron vest and carrying the standard ninja sword, and checking every detail, Katsura followed the captain and two other teammates and disappeared at the entrance of the Anbu.

I hope to complete a simple C-level mission.
