The air held its breath upon her words, and she heard the collective gasp that waved through the seated persons. Even the old man flinched, like she had just uttered the biggest abomination there was.
The certainty on Cain's face flickered for the first time, and that brought her this wild sense of achievement. It was nice seeing that expression of his like he can predict the future fall off, and then his aura deepened.
"You do...not?" An eye of his twitched.
She raised her chin again, challenging him with her eyes. She wouldn't let him win so easily, think he has everybody and everything wrapped around his fingers. She was going to make sure everyday of his life was pure torture from her, the same way he's ruined hers.
Then, he smiled.
And she knew he was about to do something terrible.
