Merit can counterbalance one's evil karma, and if one can shape a Merit Golden Body with Incense Power, they can easily withstand Heavenly Tribulation, possibly even advancing without encountering tribulation.
However, achieving this requires accumulation of Incense Power for perhaps a thousand or even ten thousand years, and if interrupted, all previous efforts will be in vain.
Furthermore, Incense Power comes from mortal desires, and as such desires are mixed with Incense Power, the more one absorbs into the body, the more illusory it becomes.
During the Refining Void Stage, one must cut off their own illusions, as these mortal desires will impede the path to cultivation. The only way is to reincarnate with the Merit Golden Body, using reincarnation to sever illusions.
