Chapter 3 - 02. Rank A Dungeon

It was an odd feeling.

When Lin Young-Jae was wheeled out of the testing room, his head felt like it was going to explode. The nauseating feeling made him feel like he wanted to throw up his organs since he hadn't had breakfast yet. Even the slightest movement is like a rollercoaster ride, that's why he couldn't get back to his usual.

He wanted to ask the person pushing him to stop, but he couldn't find his voice, and he might really throw up if he opened his mouth. This is why he chose to close his eyes instead and endure the rocky path towards his room.

It felt like the walk was too slow, maybe the nurse saw him dizzy and made a decision to slow down her pace considerately. But it didn't help at all.

"Please endure it for a while, Mr. Lin. Don't worry, you'll be fine after resting." The nurse soothingly told him as if she were sure.

Lin Young-Jae was thankful for the kind gesture, but false hope is also a form of attack.

'Lin Young-Jae' had heard this all throughout his eight years being bed ridden. But it didn't make a difference at all. Locked in the same place, inhaling the same disinfectant scent, and forced to endure an everyday life being checked like a lab rat.

That's right. He's not just a patient, he is also a free test subject. He stayed quiet, never mentioning this to Lin Ji-Young because he felt like he was just burdening her even more. But there was not a day that any one of those specialized doctors let him have a rest.

The daily torment of several tests that his body highly rejects on several occasions. They told him with heartless eyes that it's merely trying to let him immune to it like it's a small allergy or something. No matter how he pleaded that he wanted to skip that 'treatment', no one listened. They only tone it down when they knew that Lin Ji-Young's arrival is coming.

He is already weak, but he was buckled on the bed like a guinea pig and forced to go through machines he didn't even know what for. However, whatever it was, his pain that he could endure when he's normal suddenly started hurting times more.

The pain that can make him cry. In all honesty, never in his life had he felt this much pain.

When he was still alive, the most painful thing was probably stubbing his toe at some random furniture or when the boiling oil suddenly started fighting back and hitting his skin while he was frying. He was never succumb to such treatment that he'd rather die than enduring.

For what felt like hours, passing out and waking up from pain, Lin Young-Jae was finally taken out of the pod. His pale body that looked sickly looked dead if he weren't panting and sweating coldly.

He was carefully transferred on the bed, being installed with several type of apparatuses in his skin checking his vitals, heartbeat, brainwaves, blood pressure and more.

Of course, although they treat him with a side note of experimentation, they're still careful so as not to get him killed. After all, he is cherished by the Guild master and his older sister isn't one to be trifled with. They were just lucky that the boy was too soft-hearted and tight lipped.

It took about five minutes of slow and careful walk until they were able to reach Lin Young-Jae's private ward. In there, he was helped by a couple of nurses back to bed with careful movements.

There, he lay motionless but with shallow breaths. But as soon as his head hit the pillows and the familiar bed, his body became dependent and desperate for rest that he finally passed out.

The nurses soon left him alone to rest.

.

The news buzzed, flashing with warning notice all over the nation.

The red notice made everyone aware that a new dungeon appeared in the west side district of the city, shining in the wide road where it caused a few casualties due to suddenly appearing.

From that dungeon, army of giant spiders emerged, capturing civilians that caused more panic in the mass. Everyone started running and some cars that didn't know now what's going on at the front, stopped when welcomed by the sea of people.

The spiders that are as hard as steel that no ordinary bullet can pierce. They have strong webs that could not be cut by ordinary knife and teeth that are sharp and poisonous.

Guilds of A-class hunters and up immediately gathered to control the scene, slaying monsters and drinking potions as they braved through the swarm, buying time while other guilds focus on creating an invisible 'barrier', a frequency of which could make something unable to be seen by monsters and stop them from passing through.

The night was long. With only a number of A-ranked and S-ranked hunters in the city, it could be said to be a lot of effort facing more than fifty monsters that scurried in the vicinity.

"The gate is stabilized. All that's left to do is hunting down all the escaped monsters and clean up." The announcement finally came from the representatives, making everyone sigh in relief.

As everyone busily observed the dungeon, a black car stopped just at the yellow tape, bordering passerbys not to enter.

The door was opened and a man came out fully equipped to fight. His footsteps are light and not in a hurry, taking his sweet time but his tall stature made these walk a breeze.

Upon reaching the people who are checking out their equipments, they stopped and greeted the man.

"Guild Master, you're here!" One of the enthusiastic scientist greeted, holding a device in his hand.

"The situation?" The man asked, his low voice making the cold night become even more freezing. His black hair compassed through the direction of wind and his grey eyes solemnly stared at the dungeon, unknown of what's going through his mind.

"Our tentative deduction for this dungeon is A-rank. We still need to check the inside before further confirmation." The man fixed his glasses and explained. "As of now, all monsters that escaped the gate are within the species of arachnids. The teeth is highly venomous, the arms are sharp, the skins are bulletproof, and the webs are tough."

His grey eyes sharply looked at the gate without blinking. "How long will the frequency check finish?" He asked.

"It will be over in two days." Frequency checks are common inspection in newly opened dungeons which is simply checking the life forms inside the area as far as they could. Although sometimes, hunters just enter when it opens, but if it is in such a public space, it couldn't be helped. Abiding to procedures must be done for the public eye.

He looked down, thoughtfully considering the idea before turning around, meeting another person who stood behind him. "In two days, prepare. Items that are good for five days should do it."

The man in black suit nodded in response. "For how many people, sir?" He asked.

"Prepare for two people. I will be going in personally. Also, inform Lee Seok Jin to prepare. He will be coming with me." He began to walk away while the other followed, his face showed clear sign of astonishment.

"G-guild master, you're entering an A-ranked dungeon?" He asked puzzled. Why? Why is he entering a dungeon that is clearly easy to subdue by other S-ranks?

"Just do what I say." The man didn't care to explain. After all, even if he did, it would be cryptic.

He entered the car at the back seat, his eyes looking back at the dungeon with unreadable eyes.

"It's arrived." His voice is like a whisper, carrying unease and pressure. It was unknown whether he was anticipating this dungeon's appearance or he was saying something else, but no one would raise that question knowing how much of a busy man he was that his every single word may have other meanings. He crossed his arms and looked front, the driver, awaiting orders. "It's time to go." He said.

On cue, the car sped out from the broken part of the city. The man in the car was quiet. Lights passed through from buildings to buildings, illuminating his handsome appearance that seemed to never smile.

He leaned his back on the seat, closing his grey eyes but not sleeping. His senses could not drown the noise outside which is simply torturous, but he learned to live by. All S-ranked hunters feel the same way after all.

But his caliber is definitely different. Not all S-ranks have trouble getting sleep. But he had a rather heavier responsibility as a 'guild master'. He opened his eyes again, letting out a heavy sigh when his phone began to ring.

The busy man answered his calls letting the busy night get through him.
