Chapter 291 - Chapter 291: Caitlin, I’m going all out

Lucario's typing is Steel + Fighting.

Steel resists Psychic moves. Sure, Fighting is weak to Psychic, but with Steel in the mix, Lucario wouldn't be quite so helpless when facing Psychic-type attacks.

"Lucario!"

Facing the pouring psychic barrage, Lucario coated its fists in a layer of silvery metallic sheen. It swung upward in rapid blows to block while striding straight toward Gothitelle.

After that round of bombardment, Lucario somehow hadn't taken much damage at all. Instead, the smoke and dust kicked up by the impacts on the ground once again covered its advance.

Seeing Lucario close in again, Caitlin frowned slightly—Lucario was as annoying as a piece of gum stuck to her shoe.

Most importantly, even if she used Teleport to avoid it, Lucario could pull right back in with Extreme Speed.

And even without Extreme Speed, there was Quick Attack…

So how was she supposed to beat Grey's Lucario?

Caitlin did have a plan, but Grey's commands often went beyond what she expected.

If her plan fell apart, she would absolutely end up on the back foot.

Just like right now.

Grey clearly knew Gothitelle could use Psychic—an attack that was terrifyingly effective at close range—and yet he still wanted Lucario to fight up close.

Caitlin couldn't understand what Grey was thinking. All she could do was judge based on her past livestream experience.

"Gothitelle, use Psyshock again!"

"Gothi~"

Gothitelle crossed its hands over its chest, brilliant blue light blooming between its palms.

Countless pure-psychic bullets formed in the air before it.

As Lucario charged in again, Gothitelle flicked its wrist—and Psyshock howled forward!

Da-da-da!

The psychic bullets streaked out with trailing tails, firing at a terrifying Gatling-gun frequency!

"Lucario!"

Lucario's eyes flared with fighting spirit. Steel energy plated its fists with metallic luster.

Bullet Punch threw out a storm of silver afterimages, its fist-strikes colliding violently with the psychic bullets in midair.

Every clash detonated a ring of psychic ripples, and the entire battlefield was instantly swallowed by a blue-and-silver energy storm.

Shattered psychic fragments rained down like crystal, carving countless tiny cracks at Lucario's feet.

Caitlin sensed those scattered psychic fragments behind Lucario. The corner of her mouth lifted—like she'd found something huge.

"Gothitelle—now! Psychic!"

Gothitelle obeyed, forcing through the gusting pressure from Lucario's punches as it expanded Psychic outward.

And the moment it touched those psychic fragments, Gothitelle understood Caitlin's intent.

"Lucario!"

Lucario's fists were already there—silver-white punch after punch slamming into Gothitelle with dull, heavy thuds.

The blows were brutal. Even with Reflect's protection, it was still painful for Gothitelle.

It gritted through it, spread its arms, and pulled Lucario into a tight hold.

Then—

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

Blue light exploded in Gothitelle's eyes. Invisible psychic shackles locked Lucario's joints in an instant.

At the same time, the psychic fragments scattered across the ground suddenly trembled and floated up. Guided by Psychic power, they became a skyful of deep-blue lethal arrow-rain!

"Try using Crunch."

Lucario's muscles tensed to the limit. It tried to bare its teeth—but it couldn't move, like an insect trapped in amber.

This Psychic was unusually strong. Lucario couldn't even open its mouth, let alone gather Dark-type energy.

All it could do was hear the tearing sound behind it—feel those cold-glinting psychic shards screaming toward its completely exposed back!

Tzz tzz tzz!

Lucario was stabbed several times in the back. Thankfully, the power wasn't too high, and it managed to withstand it.

After finishing the move, Gothitelle used Teleport to pull back several paces, avoiding any retaliation from Lucario's attacks.

Crunch, Dark Pulse—either one landing would be miserable.

If possible, it was better to keep distance.

With the battle tilting in her favor, Caitlin's expression gradually improved.

"Lucario, it's time to use your full strength."

Grey used Aura to send a team voice message straight to Lucario.

"So soon?"

Lucario didn't get it. It thought Grey wanted it to have fun a little longer.

"Yeah—but don't hit too hard."

Grey thought of Reggie earlier and still gave Lucario a reminder.

"Got it."

Lucario nodded hard, and its Aura burst out explosively.

At the same time, the same energy fluctuation appeared around Grey's body as well. Their frequencies matched in that instant, like they'd entered a state of perfect mutual understanding.

[Did the streamer just power up?]

[It was never off, okay! Still, the Governor's battle is legit—she actually landed that many hits on the streamer. None of the previous challengers managed that.]

[Or maybe the streamer saw it was the Governor and deliberately went easy. He's gonna need gift money later—if he goes for the kill right away, what if the boss stops sending gifts?]

The moment that comment appeared, everyone immediately understood Grey's painstaking intentions.

Of course—Pokémon battles were about social tact, not just fighting.

"Caitlin, be careful from here on out. What I'm going to use is something Psychic power can achieve too."

Grey deliberately gave her a heads-up.

In the exchange just now, Grey could feel it directly—Caitlin's development of her Psychic abilities wasn't that deep.

Even Sabrina's apprentice, Fumika, was more developed in that area than Caitlin.

"Hm?"

Sensing the change in Grey and Lucario's presence, Caitlin stiffened like she was facing a deadly enemy.

"Gothitelle! Expanding Force!"

This time the move she called was different from before.

Gothitelle snapped a hand upward. The ground under Lucario instantly loosened, as if something was about to burst up through the earth.

"Extreme Speed."

Lucario vanished from where it stood, a blinding white light stretching into a cone-shaped shockwave.

And at the spot it had just occupied, a pillar of psychic light suddenly blasted straight up.

After forcing out Lucario's Extreme Speed, Caitlin closed her eyes and hunted for its trail.

Very quickly, she caught it!

"Gothitelle!" Caitlin called her partner's name.

"Gothi~"

Gothitelle gave a slight nod, releasing Psyshock again.

Psychic orbs rose and circled its body like planetary rings—then shot out in a radial burst!

Clack-clack-clack.

The sound Caitlin wanted to hear didn't come.

Instead, she saw earth-brown light shatter the Psyshock!

Lucario was charging in, a bone club in its grasp.

Where the bone club swept, the psychic orbs disintegrated into dust, and Lucario tore through the barrage—racing in with sparkling fragments swirling all around it!
