Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Hiding a Beauty in a Golden House

Vivian's gaze swept across the bookshelf and finally landed on a book called "The Universe in a Nutshell".

Isn't this the Stephen Hawking book she's been looking for?

She's already visited several bookstores for this book, only to be told by each that it's out of stock. She was planning to try the library tomorrow, but unexpectedly found it at Ethan Hayes' home.

Vivian looked up at "The Universe in a Nutshell" placed on the top shelf, estimated the height, then stood on her tiptoes, reaching out to try and grab it.

However, the bookshelf was too high and she was too short. She had already stretched her arms to the limit, but was still a couple of inches short.

Too much... why would someone design a bookshelf this tall!!

Vivian struggled for quite a while but still couldn't reach the book.

No way, she had to try again. Unyielding, Vivian continued standing on her tiptoes, waging a battle with the bookshelf.

Ethan Hayes lifted his head from a heap of math problems and immediately saw Vivian standing in front of the bookshelf, on her tiptoes, trying to reach the books.

The sunlight outside was just right, casting a layer of pale golden glow on Vivian through the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

She was wearing a white T-shirt and denim overalls, her silhouette really looked like a little kid reaching for candy.

Just as her fingertips began to tremble, yet she was still an inch or so away from the book, Ethan couldn't help but chuckle silently.

He stood up, walked over to Vivian, reached out, and casually pulled the book from the shelf. Then he looked down at the cover and said, "The Universe in a Nutshell, is this the book you wanted?"

Vivian turned her head and found Ethan standing behind her, holding the book she'd struggled so hard to get. Instantly, she felt relieved.

She lowered her arm that she had been raising for so long, rubbed it a bit, and said, "Yeah, I've gone through several bookstores to buy it but couldn't. I didn't expect you to have it at your place. But it was placed too high. I tried hard but couldn't reach it."

"Ha, that's because you're short." Ethan lowered his gaze a bit, looked at Vivian's petite stature, and couldn't resist teasing her.

"..."

Vivian pursed her lips, though she really wanted to give him a good punch, she still maintained an awkward yet polite smile and said, "Not growing as tall as you is my failure."

"You don't need to be as tall as me. If a girl is as tall as I am, it would be hard to find a boyfriend." Ethan added with his annoying tone.

Whether I find a boyfriend is none of your damn business!!

Vivian glared at him forcefully without saying a word.

"By the way, how tall are you?? Are you even 4'11"??" Ethan asked while gesturing Vivian's height with his hand. Hmm, her head just reached his chest.

"Hehe, I'm 5'1", thank you." Vivian replied with a poker face.

"So you're exactly 12 inches shorter than me." Ethan blinked, his face already wearing a mischievous smile as he looked at Vivian, "I remember being your height when I was in fifth grade."

"Being 12 inches shorter just means doing 12 math problems."
