Scott watched on the side, bewildered. At the moment Kiki turned around to leave, Scott couldn't help but exclaim angrily, "What's wrong with Kiki? Does she think no one can surpass her and everyone has to be her defeated opponent? Ridiculous!"
Maya frowned. Strange, why was Scott speaking up for her? Wasn't everyone in this book world supposed to be influenced by the protagonist's halo?
Scott was just a sidekick to a cannon fodder villain in the book, so naturally, he didn't have much of a role. Maya couldn't figure out why Scott would do this. Could it be... Scott was part of the villain's camp?
With this thought, Maya now looked at Scott with a bit of pity in her eyes.
She was just completing her tasks, and getting hurt or dying was all an act to her, but it was different for Scott. He existed because of the book, and ceasing to exist meant exactly that.
Being fed by Scott and other assistants every day, Maya inevitably developed some feelings.
