After the surgery, the intense pain in his brain was far from a one-time occurrence.
Every few days, it felt as if a searing energy was burning through his brain.

What he remembered most clearly was that after enduring that surgery, his so-called father really took him to an amusement park a few days later.
It was the first time he had stepped out of the hospital doors.
He saw other people, normal people outside of doctors and nurses.
Unlike those in the hospital, who were insane and muttered to themselves.
They seemed busy, hurrying to and fro.
He also saw many, many children his age.
That day the amusement park was crowded, and every ride required waiting in line to have a turn.
He was six that year; it was the first time he and his father went to an amusement park.
Simply because he survived the surgery, and because he was about to face a more brutal life.
