Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Unboxing Packages

After sending off the delivery people, the four of them—grandparent and grandchildren—closed the gate and disappeared along with the fence.

Inside the space, Bai Yifan and Bai Zhengxuan tidied up the fence, separated the young animals, and cut some grass from the ground to feed them.

Bai Xiqin and Liu Jing were calculating how much money they had left.

The savings in the bank card had already been spent. Adding the money from selling fruit by the old couple and Bai Xiqin's remaining money, there was still forty thousand left.

"Let's each take ten thousand. Buy whatever you want!"

Liu Jing decisively split the money.

In the future, they certainly wouldn't starve, so it was time to buy things for themselves.

"Really?"

Bai Yifan's eyes lit up.

He could buy a lot of milk powder and maybe a gaming console!

"Of course it's true! It's the last time we can splurge anyway!"

Liu Jing said calmly, already planning to ask her granddaughter to place some orders for her on online shopping apps so she could buy some things for herself too.

"Oh my! Grandpa, what are you doing?"

Bai Yifan looked at Bai Zhengxuan in shock.

Green buds were sprouting non-stop from Bai Zhengxuan's head.

And his body was emitting a dense white mist, accompanied by a sizzling sound.

This was the sight of fire and water meeting!

"I'm just too excited!" Bai Zhengxuan's cloudy eyes shone brightly. "It's the first time I can freely dispose of so much money!"

Although he had spent more than a hundred thousand to buy a harvester, he hadn't been excited.

That was necessary spending, a decision everyone agreed upon.

Ever since he entered the grave of love in his youth, the highest amount of money he could control was never more than a thousand yuan.

Now, suddenly allowed to spend ten thousand on himself, he was thrilled!

"Excitement is one thing, but Grandma, can you not flaunt your superpowers?"

Bai Yifan looked both envious and resentful at the smoking and sprouting Bai Zhengxuan.

"Oh, I just can't control it!"

Bai Zhengxuan plucked the green bud off his head and tossed it to the fenced rabbits.

"Don't spend your money carelessly; save it to buy calves!"

Liu Jing cast a chilly glance at Bai Zhengxuan.

Bai Zhengxuan's smile froze, the sizzling sound from his body gradually ceased, and his face crumpled into a pitiful expression.

"I'll give you two thousand, Grandpa!"

Bai Xiqin said spiritedly.

"Great!"

Bai Zhengxuan's smile instantly returned, and the sizzling smoke started again.

Two thousand was still a significant amount for Bai Zhengxuan!

After another busy day, the grandparent and grandchildren finished fencing the animals and came out of the space just as darkness fell.

No one slept that night.

They all poked at their phones shopping, planning to spend everything, knowing that once their online purchases arrived in a few days, they could return to the city.

Choosing their hometown as the delivery address was a low-key choice.

Once back in the city, no one would know how many supplies they had stored, and it wouldn't make anyone wary.

The villagers might know they'd bought a lot of things, but with an apocalypse making movement nearly impossible, they wouldn't likely seek them out.

Bai Anhai's rented warehouse wasn't in the community, so as long as they kept a low profile, no one would pay attention.

Sometimes, the most terrifying things aren't zombies or mutated animals, but the human heart.

Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan stayed in their hometown for another three to four days, during which they received numerous packages daily.

Bai Xiqin would drive an electric tricycle to pick up a load of parcels from the delivery point each time.

The seeds arrived too, dumped into the space, to be researched later on how to plant them.

Bai Zhengxuan went out once, and when he returned, he brought back a pair of calves.

Next was the exciting time of unboxing.

The four had no time for ratings or remembering who bought which package.

They had bought a pile of skateboards because zombies make driving on blocked roads impossible.

Even selling the boxes from unboxing the packages earned Bai Yifan and Bai Zhengxuan a good amount!

They harvested many ripe persimmons and pomegranates from the orchard, leaving the rest for the villagers as a little help since the space wouldn't lack fruit.

One midnight, Bai Zhengxuan went to the village chief's house for a long talk.

Whatever they discussed, Bai Xiqin didn't know, but Bai Zhengxuan seemed less worried afterward.

Bai Xiqin didn't ask about it; Bai Zhengxuan was a people's teacher who always knew what to do, and the village chief was his childhood friend.

Whatever was said, it was a small contribution.

After all the parcels were collected, Bai Xiqin put their furniture and the electric tricycle into the space.

Finally, Bai Zhengxuan shut the gate and tossed the lock into the yard.

Bai Zhengxuan and Liu Jing took a nostalgic glance at the tranquil village before they left with Bai Xiqin and her brother.

When the four reached home, no one was there; Bai Anhai and his wife were busy with supermarket matters.

The house was a three-bedroom with a living room; Bai Anhai and his wife had one room, and Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan each had one.

Now with Grandpa and Grandma around, Bai Yifan got the sofa, perfect!

"Sis, is the space kind of messy?"

Bai Yifan asked casually while lounging on the sofa, experiencing his new bed.

"It is a bit messy," Bai Xiqin nodded, "We'll place several light steel houses inside the space, and then make some tin houses for storage, that should organize it."

"Tin houses cost about 190 yuan per square meter, but aren't light steel houses expensive?"

Bai Yifan frowned.

Indeed, still poor!

"There's a company specializing in light steel houses over at the tech park. We can visit during the apocalypse; it's not far," Bai Xiqin said.

By then, they'd also need to "take" some oil from gas stations and "take" some medicine from pharmacies.

Bai Xiqin had already purchased several detailed nationwide maps.

There's a large pharmacy right at the community entrance, which she had already scoped out!

"Xiao Niu, make sure you don't go alone then. Stay with us!"

Liu Jing said worriedly.

She always thought her granddaughter was a soft and cute bunny, not suited for handling an apocalypse alone.

"Okay!"

Bai Xiqin smiled gently, feeling warm.

This time, no matter what, the family would stay together.

"Don't be afraid! I've got Three Ability, I'll protect you all!"

Bai Zhengxuan smugly stretched out his hand, which emitted sizzling white smoke. Amid the swirling white mist, a green bud joyfully sprouted.

"Tch! How strong can you be?"

Liu Jing calmly stretched out her hand, instantly forming a layer of frost.

The room instantly felt much colder.

Bai Xiqin: …

Bai Xiqin always thought she was reborn with a golden finger and had the Three Ability superpower, making her supposedly the most blessed in the world.

But now it seemed like her grandparents were even more powerful.

Superpower strength wasn't related to age, and her grandparents were sure to go far on their superpower journey!
