Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Rooftop Leap

"Was this to screw me over?"

Su Changxing noticed that the group hadn't gone far but instead had gone up the nearby building, causing part of the Undead Tide to still pile up on the street.

Screams echoed around, pairs of dark red eyes flickered in the Darkness, and the surrounding Zombies began closing in on him.

Su Changxing knew there was no way to charge through directly. He made a swift decision, placing his left foot on the wall and grabbing the Iron Token protruding above the shop with his right hand, climbing up the red stone brick wall.

The Zombies below lunged and missed; they couldn't climb and could only roar helplessly from below.

Su Changxing discovered an issue. The Mysterious Shop was actually just a layer of light; the original shop at this location hadn't disappeared, only being hidden by the light.

"So it just set up a teleport point here; the Mysterious Shop is in another space."

This wasn't far from Su Changxing's earlier expectations; the so-called Mysterious Shop was how the Doomsday Game intervened in this world.

One floor, two floors, three floors...

Su Changxing feared the floors were too low, so these Zombies would follow him up the stairs. He climbed to the sixth floor before stopping, using the Steel Saber to break a window and climb inside.

Once inside, he saw two Zombies roaring and rushing at him.

"They really are relentless."

Su Changxing cursed, quickly raising his Steel Saber to slash at the nearer one while simultaneously moving sideways to dodge the other Zombie's attack.

Accompanied by the sound of a skull cracking, the Steel Saber slashed into the Zombie's forehead.

Looking back at the remaining Zombie, it was where Su Changxing had been, and Su Changxing kicked it out the window.

"It's really not dead."

Su Changxing glanced at his phone but didn't see a kill notification. The sixth floor wasn't high enough to directly kill a Zombie; it needed to be higher to smash the Zombie's brain with force.

Su Changxing drank some water and rested quietly for over ten minutes, with the sound of screams constantly in his ears.

He knew those people were under siege on a nearby building.

Meanwhile, Wu Wenbi and his people were holding the rooftop door tightly, constantly swinging their weapons to resist the Zombie attack.

Wu Wenbi's combat power was astonishing; each of his assaults would inevitably pierce a Zombie's forehead, and his strikes were extremely rapid.

In a short amount of time, they had forcibly held back the Undead Tide, killing a Zombie for every one that got in, layering the rooftop door with Zombie corpses.

But there were too many Zombies, and eventually, someone would run out of stamina.

A person holding a wrench, looking dispirited, was exhausted and let a Zombie in, forcing others to retreat, allowing more Zombies to flood in.

Seconds later, Wu Wenbi heard a scream and saw Wang Hu, completely clothed, fall among the Zombies; his thick clothing couldn't stop the Zombies' teeth and claws.

The others showed panic on their faces. Someone dying meant there would be a second death, so they all started retreating, letting more Zombies rush in.

Wu Wenbi's face showed an expression of urgency, shouting, "Don't retreat, the Zombie numbers are decreasing, we can win."

His movements became even faster, with black blood all over his body.

Seeing that Zombie numbers indeed began to decrease, the others regained some momentum, fighting fiercely against the Zombies with their last breath.

Simultaneously, Wu Wenbi gradually drew his position backward, maintaining relative safety.

He appeared brave, yet it was only under the premise of safety. If he sensed danger, he would immediately abandon these people and retreat alone.

He was a prudent man.

...

Su Changxing pondered for a while and decided to leave, worrying the man in the trench coat might come for revenge on him, but with so many Zombies below, going down was risky. He had to find a way to move across the upper floors.

He entered a room opposite, eliminated a Zombie, and looked out the window to observe his surroundings, estimating he could probably jump onto the building across from the rooftop.

Following the stairs, Su Changxing made his way to the rooftop of the floor, witnessing an extremely gory, brutal scene.

The rooftop of the adjacent building was covered with Zombie corpses, dark red blood forming a thin layer on the floor, flowing down the drain.

Among them were four or five human corpses, mauled beyond recognition. The others were nowhere to be seen, and the man in the trench coat wasn't among the dead bodies.

According to his intuition, the man in the trench coat posed the greatest threat to him.

"Need to be careful."

Su Changxing muttered to himself.

He knew this person might go mad seeking revenge on him, trying all possible means to kill him.

No one could tolerate such humiliation.

Placing himself in the situation, Su Changxing thought that if he were the man in the trench coat, he might also see himself as the culprit of it all.

But thinking about it, these people were quite formidable, managing to face off against a swarm of Zombies and have some survivors.

This required not only individuals with strong combat abilities but also good collaboration and execution skills.

Su Changxing ignored the few remaining Zombies on the rooftop, heading to the edge to look across at the opposite building's rooftop.

The distance was nearly ten meters, making it impossible for an ordinary person to jump across.

But Su Changxing's Power and Speed were far beyond normal, enabling him to jump across with a bit of a running start.

Facing this scenario, Su Changxing felt an inexplicable familiarity, suddenly recalling a classic movie line: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Zombies' screams arose behind him as he accelerated forward, stepping on the rooftop's edge railing, his body leaping high.

He knew he could make the jump, yet his heart still raced uncontrollably, a natural human reaction to danger.

The dark alley below, like an Abyss, as he traced a curve through the air, landing heavily on the opposite rooftop.

He turned to see a Zombie also trying to follow his jump, only to fall from mid-air.

Another Zombie, however, seemed smarter, merely observing from the rooftop's edge, roaring, but not following Su Changxing in jumping across.

"Is it an illusion? This Zombie seems a bit different."

Frowning slightly, Su Changxing didn't dwell on it, knowing this world was inherently illogical, with any anomaly being plausible.

He moved to the center exit of the rooftop, finding the door locked from the inside, so he went to the rooftop's edge, found a suitable spot, and climbed down.

On the floor below the top, he entered through an open window.

"Blood smell?"

Su Changxing detected a faint smell of blood, likely human, surveyed the area, and found no Zombies, only a human corpse on the ground nearby.

The corpse didn't have many external wounds, but its back was covered with sticky blood, its face frozen in despair.

Evidently, this person didn't die at the hands of a Zombie but was killed by another human, suffering a fatal blow to the back of the head, causing massive internal bleeding and death.
