We led Cassius to Camilla's room where he could rest and clean up. He still looked pale, disoriented, like someone who hadn't quite figured out how to be alive again.
"There's a bath prepared," I told him. "Take your time, we'll bring you food."
He nodded, touched his neck again in that unconscious gesture I'd already seen him do a dozen times since waking. Checking that the mark was really gone.
Camilla and I left him to his privacy and headed to the kitchens.
The moment we were alone in the corridor, Camilla grabbed my arm.
"Why didn't you let me tell him?" she demanded, her voice low but fierce. "About Aldrik? About how much Aldrik loves him?"
I sighed, having been expecting this. "Because it's not our place to say that."
"But he thinks Aldrik only feels guilty!" Camilla protested. "He doesn't know that Aldrik is completely destroyed, that it's not just guilt but actual love. If he knew…"
