Two months had passed since the war ended, and the world was finally starting to feel stable.
I sat in my office at Ravenshollow, staring at a list of names I'd been compiling for weeks. Names for our child, who would be born in about seven months if the healer's calculations were correct.
Cadiz and I had discussed it endlessly, lying in bed at night with my hand on his still-flat stomach, imagining the person growing inside him.
"Something strong," Cadiz had said. "But not intimidating, I don't want our child to feel like they have to live up to some grand legacy."
"Something with meaning," I'd suggested. "That honors what we've built, what we've fought for."
But we hadn't settled on anything yet.
I looked down at the list again, names scrawled in my handwriting with notes beside each one.
