Chapter 1 - The Red Memory

The floor was soaked with blood.

A woman's lifeless body lay sprawled on the cold concrete, her bruised face frozen in terror. Her white blouse was torn, stained crimson, her hand stretched feebly in one direction—toward the girl screaming nearby.

"Mom! Mom!!"

The shrill cry of a child echoed through the empty alley.

A small girl, barely ten, was being dragged away by two towering men in black. Her legs kicked, her nails clawed at the pavement, desperate to return to her mother.

"Chae Min! Don't leave me!" she wailed, her voice raw with fear.

A boy, also no older than ten, lay on the ground a few feet away. Blood streamed from his forehead, his lip trembling. He raised his arm weakly toward her. His fingers twitched—trying, hoping, failing.

"Let go of my sister…" he whispered.

Then, darkness.

The sounds.

The screams.

The loss.

Years later.

Lee Chae Min sat in silence at his desk after a session of boxing he was doing. The memories of what happened that night still runs well in his mind, something he tried not to remember, the warm spring sunlight pouring through his office window. He stared at the architectural models on the shelf but wasn't really seeing them.

His long fingers slowly reached up to his scalp, and he began tugging at his hair—gently at first… then harder. He always pulled his hair when the memories surfaced.

That alley.

His mother's body.

His sister's screams.

The look on the men's faces.

And how he had done… nothing.
