Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Narration and the Stock Market

Su Qing never thought that one day he would end up arguing with a dog.

When Su Hongye emerged from the study, he saw his eldest son, single-handedly punching his youngest and kicking the family dog, Huang, fiercely battling two against one without losing ground, truly resembling the son of a military family.

"What are you doing!" Su Hongye shouted hurriedly.

At that moment, Su Qing was holding Su He by the back of her neck and pressing her into the sofa, while Huang was furiously tugging at his pant leg from behind.

"Dad? You're home?" Upon hearing this, Su Qing looked up in surprise.

In response, Su Hongye angrily said, "Where else would I be? And you, let go now!"

"All you do is bully your sister and Huang. If your mom sees this, you're in for it."

Hearing this, Su Qing reluctantly released his grip and stood up. Since the adults were home, he had to let the two of them off the hook for now.

"Dad, you don't know, Huang growled at me, and Su He called me a dog too. Aren't you going to say something!" Su Qing complained.

He had to let his dad know about his sister's bad behavior, couldn't let her keep twisting the truth.

"You're supposed to be the man here; why are you arguing with a dog and your sister? As her brother, can't you show some leniency?"

"Sweetie, are you okay?"

Speaking, Su Hongye hurriedly stepped forward.

"Dad~~ my brother bullied me again, waah waah waah~~~ I just said he's so old without finding a girlfriend, like a single dog, and he got mad at me. I was only thinking of his good," Su He started to cry, looking so pitiful she was like a replica of Lin Daiyu.

Seeing this, Su Qing quickly said, "Dad, that's not what she said at the time, and don't let her fool you!"

"Daaaad~~~" Su He quickly whined, sounding completely different than when she was defiant after being pinned down.

Any family with two kids would understand that if parents weren't around, the kids might end up exchanging blows, neither backing down. But if the parents were there, the disadvantaged one would cry and complain no matter if the beating happened in the morning; they had to cry when parents came home in the afternoon, a skill indeed.

Unfortunately, Su Qing was always the one being tattled on since childhood.

Of course, even though he's graduated now and Su He is about to take her college entrance exams, Old Su wouldn't really hit him to vent for his sister, but a scolding would be inevitable.

"Your sister isn't wrong. You've graduated, yet you're not seeing anyone, and if you can't get a girlfriend, it's fine. But you don't even have a proper job, calling you a single dog isn't wrong, is it?"

Su Qing: -_-|||

As expected, he knew this would come up.

But upon thinking about it, he had leverage. Su Qing smiled and said, "Dad, you're right. I'm planning to job hunt tomorrow. Sigh, might be busy again, not much time for other things then."

He glanced at Su He intentionally.

Sure enough, upon hearing this, Su He quickly changed her tune: "Dad, my brother's been out of school for less than a year, no rush to find a partner. Don't worry yourself."

Su Hongye: ???

The little padded jacket's sudden betrayal left Old Su a bit perplexed.

Seeing this, Su Qing rapidly pulled out a milk tea: "Look, got this for you!"

Upon hearing, Su He's eyes turned into little slivers of the moon. She pranced forward, reaching out her hands, flashing her little tiger teeth: "Thank you, brother~~"

Just as she was about to grab it, in the next second, she realized her hands weren't just holding milk tea, but also a set of college entrance exam practice papers.

"Sis, since your exams are right around the corner, this is a little something from your brother. If you find any questions you can't solve, use this," saying that, Su Qing handed over the lighter he got from Wang Xing, continuing:

"Just click where you don't understand!"

Su He stood frozen at the spot, nearly going mad inside. She just wanted a cup of milk tea, did it require giving her a set of exam papers? This was clearly revenge.

But in front of Old Su, she couldn't show resistance, because she portrayed the image of an obedient young lady, the parents' close little quilted jacket, a persona she couldn't let crumble, especially since she had to ask for favors tomorrow.

"Thank you very much!!"

Su Qing acted as if he didn't grasp the undertone of his sister's words: "You're welcome; having me is your blessing."

Seeing it come to this, Su He knew she had lost, holding onto the milk tea and practice papers, she headed back to her room without turning back.

Old Su stood nearby, nodding in satisfaction, pleased with the exam papers Su Qing had presented.

"Dad, how come you didn't go fishing with Uncle Li today?" Taking the advantage, Su Qing felt in a great mood.

Being a university lecturer, Old Su, apart from teaching, enjoyed fishing as a hobby.

"Earning some extra cash; unless you're supporting the family!" With that said, he turned and headed back to his study.

Upon hearing this, Su Qing's eyes instantly lit up. Extra cash, that was right up his alley. He might not have a girlfriend or anything else, but money was something he really needed.

With that in mind, he promptly followed into the study and immediately saw Comrade Old Su sitting at the computer, deep in thought.

Su Qing walked in to see the computer screen displaying the stock market K-line chart and a stack of notebooks lined on the desk.

On the other side of the computer, there was also a self-drawn data model by Old Su for analysis.

When it came to stock trading, Su Qing was clueless but understood that those who truly knew the game did not rely on luck. Each stock purchase required substantial data support. Though, for common traders, luck and experience often played a bigger role in small-scale transactions.

And Comrade Old Su had been a veteran investor. With his knowledge in securities and finance over the years, while he didn't achieve sudden wealth, his earnings were considerable, and most of Su Qing's pocket money came from it.

"Dad, how's the market been lately?" Su Qing cheerfully walked in.

Upon hearing, Comrade Old Su was somewhat surprised. Su Qing had never shown interest in this kind of thing before.

"Are you interested in this too?" As a parent, Old Su was quite open-minded, at least not viewing it as gambling like ordinary parents might, considering he was a university lecturer with some perspective.

Upon hearing this, Su Qing quickly waved his hands: "No, I'm not really interested in this stuff, but I thought about making a little extra cash, and maybe joining you in buying some things."

Indeed, that was Su Qing's goal. Since he didn't understand the stocks, he might as well get someone else to do it, and with someone skilled in the family, he didn't believe his father would trick his own son.

To which, Old Su wasn't surprised by his response, as he clearly understood his kid's nature.

"The market's steady, recently hasn't shown significant fluctuations. In such a situation, for casual investors like us, long-term investments don't yield much meaning, but short-term ones can still do. Look at this stock, through analysis, I predict it will have a minor upward swing soon," Su Hongye said confidently, and as he spoke, he swiftly bought five lots right in front of Su Qing.

The minimum stock transaction is one lot, and one lot equals a hundred shares. The stock Old Su bought was 20 yuan per share, 2000 for a lot, and five lots equaled ten thousand yuan.

The moment Old Su pressed the purchase confirm button, Su Qing's mind buzzed with a narrator's voice:

[Even though the strong-minded dad is a seasoned investor, he still cannot match the treacherous and unpredictable nature of the market. This stock is predicted to drop to 1800 in five days and stall at 1500 in half a month, leading to a slight loss even for the veteran.]

"Dad, I think what you're doing won't work."

Su Hongye: "Get lost, you're the one who won't work!"

Su Qing: ...
