Chapter 1 - Fluid

Love is fluid. So is sexuality. I'm confused about which gender I truly love. So here I am, drowning in the tide of not knowing which way to swim.

"Why do you want us to break up?" William asked, his voice sharp but trembling underneath.

Diane's throat tightened. A dozen truths pressed against her lips. Because I'm in love with a girl. Because I don't love you anymore. Because I was talking to her while I was still with you. She wanted to spit it all out, but her courage failed her.

Instead, the lie slipped out, flat and lifeless: "I'm breaking up with you because I'm tired of us."

She didn't wait for his response. She turned on her heel and walked away, her eyes burning. Every step felt heavier than the last, like her shoes were filled with the very water she was drowning in.

Somewhere behind her, William was still standing — broken, confused, waiting for an answer she would never give him.
