Chapter 1 - Reminiscense

Upon arriving at the scene, Yan Lou couldn't help but feel a wave of terror wash over him. Swords were clashing together; soldiers dropping dead...

"Yue Long!!!" Yan Lou called out, running towards her chamber. In haste, he tripped over a body. It was her loyal maid. He felt a pang of void in his heart as he scrambled to stand up and enter her room.

She lay there, lifelessly covered in blood. He rushed over to her side, carrying her lifeless body in his hands.

'This wasn't supposed to happen!' he lamented as he wailed.

'Wake up, please, I beg you. You aren't supposed to die.'

His pain was felt in the demon realm as his perpetual flower, which represents his soul, started to dim. His second-in-command, Zhu Feng thinking that the Demon Lord was in danger, gathered a troop of demon soldiers to rescue his master.

By the time they reached the scene, Yan Lou had already passed out. Zhu Feng and the other demon troop ran to carry him. Separating Yan Lou from Yue Ling, her body started to fade away. They knew they couldn't save her, but at least they could save him.

*At the Demon Realm*

Zhu Feng and the physicians kept trying to transfer energy to Yan Lou to stop his perpetual core from dissipating. The hours wore on, and they were finally able to stabilize his core enough for him to drift into a coma, giving him time to decide his fate.

"Can we do something to pull him out of the deep sleep he immersed himself in?" Zhu Feng asked, pacing the room. His frame was tall and gaunt, draped in robes as dark as a crow's wing, embroidered with faint, twisting sigils that seemed to writhe when gazed upon. His eyes gleamed like twin coals, never fully dim, never fully aflame, betraying the restless power within.

"What can we do?..." The physician asked

"He needs to do this on his own, as he is etched in his own memories," the physician said halfheartedly.

Zhu Feng changed his gaze from his master to the physician.

"You are to speak of this to no one. We can't risk the Heavenly Realm or other counterparts knowing about this." The physician needed no more explanation. Lord Zhu Feng's gaze alone was enough to let him know if the word got out, he was done for.

The physician nodded and immediately excused himself, breathing a sigh of relief that he was out of there. Zhu Feng returned his gaze to his master, who had saved him from a pack of wolves in a forest where his mother had abandoned him.

Sighing, he said, "I wonder what he is dreaming about?"
