Chapter 38 - Adapt'nt

AN: I cant promise im back. I'll try continuing but its honestly a bit of a chore. My main problem might be the fact that i dont really love writing that much. I like stories and reading and started writing because finding good stories is something i struggled with.

And while i think this story did not turn out too bad, i cant really feel proud of it because it feels like something i half-heartedly sharted out.

(Pov: Riku Shindai)

Binding vows were a bitch.

Why? Because they weren't as fair as one would assume.

There were people out there like Kenjaku, creating Binding vows in order too doom Humanity and then there were others like Mei Mei, who boosted her Crows Suicide attack.

Granted, one of them was a Sorcerer who could very well be the most ancient one in History. Kenjaku was older than Sukuna and while he and Tengen had been old friends, that did not guarantee them being of the same age. With Kenjaku's personality, he could be 10 time someone's age and still act a friend.

But the brutal thing Riku had realized, was that for the Culling Games, Kenjaku had not sacrificed anything.

The man or woman had created a system of Rules and Conditions, something with enough importance to alter the very world. And he suffered not a single backlash for it. In fact, the only possible consequence was the entire thing failing.

'I know that Sukuna was referred to as the "Binding Vow Merchant", but Kenjaku might be the Binding Vow God.'

Now, Sukuna did earn his title. But his use of Binding vows was fundamentally different. Kenjaku created systems which looped around and made sure he did not suffer anything from it.

Sukuna used his vows with Timing. He made them quickly, right in the Situation in which the benefit of the Vow would hit hard and the Consequence was of no importance.

'And literally no one of the modern Jujutsu Era really used Binding Vows like those two...'

Riku's tail whipped around. A bit of excitement had welled up in him, because all of this meant that Binding Vows were a Master-key to unlock every door, as long as you sacrificed enough.

Still, Riku wanted to first try resisting Adaptation without any Vows, just to know what it was like.

So he walked through the Faux-City, searching for Aizawa.

BOOM

His grin widened a bit at the sound. He did not need to turn his head as his Cursed Energy located the cause and Consequences of the Explosion.

The sweaty teen, Bakugo had blown up a small building and stared at it as though offended.

'They're all putting some effort into this, huh? Am i the only training to get weaker?'

It was more self-flattery than truth. Honestly, this entire Situation would deepen his understanding of the wheel and his power, so why complain?

Further away, more classmates were adhering to their own training. Some were training together, but most had split up, wanting to focus on their own Performance for the Festival.

'I wonder what Fumi is training. He didn't want to tell me.'

Well, he'd find out anyway, so no point thinking about it now.

It did not take long to locate Aizawa. The man had not moved much from his initial position, the only difference was that he was in his sleeping bag with closed eyes. Something Riku deadpanned at.

'This man is either a lazy bum or works night shifts.'

Despite the teachers attempt at rest, Riku called out to him.

"REHCAET. I DLUOW EKIL OT YRT GNITSISER YM NOITATPADA WON."

(Teacher. I would like to try resisting my Adaptation now.)

"Hnngh. Follow me."

Aizawa slowly stood up, simply allowing the sleeping bag to drop to the ground. His emotional state did not shift and the man simply walked away.

'...i guess i'll follow him.'

Only a block further inside the Faux-city, teacher and student approached a small bench.

Aizawa sat down, pulled out a communication device before sitting down and glaring at Riku.

"Hizashi. Come here. Its about what the Principal talked about."

"YEAAAH, I'LL BE THERE IN 5!"

'That's Present Mic. 100%. I suppose I'll... hopefully not adapt to Soundwaves?'

Riku felt himself get a little nervous. His auditory Organs were his Wings and while Sound always was a little muffled, he was pretty sure it wouldn't matter with the guy whose Quirk was literally screaming.

But something more disconcerting than this training was Aizawa's tired stare. Riku may have been used to being stared at, but it was usually more out of prejudice or fear. Not an intense questioning look like his teacher was giving him.

"Shindai," His teacher finally broke the Silence. "I'm curious. What is a Hero in your ey... by your definition."

'Doubt? Is Aizawa worried about something?'

Riku wasn't too sure why his teacher suddenly asked him that, but it was probably connected to the USJ attack. Nevertheless, he answered honestly.

"ENOEMOS OHW SEKAM SECIFIRCAS OT EVAS SREHTO."

(Someone who makes sacrifices to save others.)

Aizawa's emotions fluctuated a little.

"Sacrifice? Is it not enough to help others?"

"GNIPLEH SREHTO SI LARUTAN. GNIKAM SECIFIRCAS TSLIHW GNIPLEH SREHTO SI CIOREH."

(Helping others is natural. Making Sacrifices whilst helping others is Heroic.)

A bit of Surprise flared up, but was quickly suppressed. It seemed like Aizawa knew and didn't like his emotions being read.

'You can suppress them but not hide them...'

"And the Nomu... what you did was the Sacrifice?"

"A OREH GNILLIWNU OT OD TAHW SI YRASSECEN SI TON CIOREH."

(A Hero unwilling to do what is necessary is not Heroic.)

Approval welled up in Aizawa's emotions, but like before they waned as Aizawa suppressed his feelings. However, a tiny amount of doubt had risen alongside it.

"Fine line you're treading there. That definition changes to Brutality real quick."

'Isn't this Hero job supposed to be brutal? The hell are we, Actors???'

"M'I TON GNIOG OT OD EHT EMAS OT A SSELEMOH NAM GNILAETS DAERB."

(I'm not going to do the same to a Homeless man stealing bread.)

"Hopefully you won't. And if that Adaptation of yours tells you to, say No."

"I LLIW YRT."

(I will try.)

Another Nod of approval from his teacher followed before the two simply stood there in Silence. Was it awkward? Perhaps. Riku was long used to awkward and Aizawa probably just didn't care.

'There he is.'

"YO, SHOTA!! SHINDAI!!"

And there he was. The man walked in, his emotions filled with excitement and joy. It was something Riku had noticed ever since joining UA, but Present Mic was probably one of the most genuine people he had ever sensed.

Present Mic wore his signature sunglasses and Hero outfit along with that pompous hairstyle.

"WHATS UP WITH YOU GUYS? SHINDAI, YOU EXCITED? WE GONNA MAKE SURE YOU'RE ALL GOOD FOR THE FESTIVAL!!! YEEEEEAAAAAAH!!!"

'On God, i will adapt to this mans voice before we even start the test if he continues like this.'

Despite that, Riku felt his ever-present grin widen a little. Turns out Enthusiasm is infectious, when its not during English class.

"LL'I EB NI RUOY ERAC."

(I'll be in your care.)

Present Mic simply answered with a double thumbs up, then turned to face Aizawa.

"SO! HOW WE DOING THIS?"

"Pipe down, will you?" Aizawa's expressionless stare mercilessly drilled into his coworker before turning to face the student. "First, i want to know something. How does my Erasure affects you?"

The man took off his scarf while he spoke, folding it and putting it aside.

'Oh? Are we going to test that?'

It surprised Riku a bit. He thought Aizawa to be the type to gatekeep any possibility of Adaptation to his own Quirk.

Aizawa continued. "The Principal gave us several Hypotheses on how your Quirk works.

One of them, is that its tied to your own Perception. Basically, if you feel like something is in the way or is dangerous to you, that wheel starts spinning.

So, what happens if i use Erasure on you, while you do not try to use any of that Cursed Energy and do not try to adapt?"

'He wants to test if i adapt to Phenomena which do not directly affect me.'

It seemed like a sound idea.

"I LLIW TON EB ELBAPAC FO GNIKAEPS DNA GNISNES. FI I OD TON YLEVICTCA YRT YNA FO SIHT, I LLIW TSOM YLEKIL TON TPADA."

(I will not be capable of speaking and sensing. If i do not actively try any of this, i will most likely not adapt.)

"Alright. Get ready. You're not in any danger so just relax. We'll tell you when Erasure stops."

The Mutant-teen nodded and took a few steps back. Then, he let go of his Cursed Energy.

The only times he usually did this, was then going to sleep. Standing somewhere with no perception of where he was was just unusual.

"Shindai? Are you ready?"

He simply nodded in answer.

...

'Is he doing it?'

Riku felt nothing. He felt like he usually did when not using his Cursed Energy or not adapting to anything.

'I guess i expected to notice it more.'

"You feel anything?"

Aizawa's voice tore him out of his musings. Riku shook his head in answer.

"Alright, try to use your energy."

"THGIRLA."

(...)

His voice came out sounding like it always did. But as Riku attempted to lace his Cursed Energy into his voice, nothing happened.

As in, he found himself incapable of accessing the Cursed Energy.

'Alright, this is kind of scary.'

He attempted to spread out his usual Sensor of CE but again, failure. He remained blind.

krnn-

In an instant, Erasure disappeared. Riku immediately laid out his Sensor, reorienting himself.

Both teachers were clearly wary, their eyes focused upon the wheel.

"DAMN, DID YOU ALREADY ADAPT?"

Present Mic's loud voice rang out again and Riku shook his head.

"I KNIHT TI SAW EROM EKIL NOITARAPERP. NOITATPADA SEOD TON NEPPAH NI ENO EGATS. I YLLAUSU TSUJ REVEN YAP NOITNETTA OT SIHT DNA TIAWA EHT LAER NRUT."

(I think it was more like preparation. Adaptation doesn't happen in a single stage. I usually just never pay attention to this and await the real turn.)

Aizawa's emotional state visibly relaxed.

"So, your Adaptation undergoes stages. You should try to document them later on. But for now, this will have to do. What triggered the Adaptation?"

"I DEIRT OT ESNES DNA KAEPS HTIW DESRUC YGRENE. I T'NOD WONK WOH TI DLUOW EVAH DETPADA."

(I tried to sense and speak with Cursed Energy. I don't know how it would have adapted.)

Aizawa nodded. "So, you tried to do something but my Erasure got into the way. Did you feel like you were in danger?"

"TON YLLAER. TI YLPMISS DENEPPAH. EKIL... SEKARB GNINEKAEW NEHW GNIOG LLIHNWOD."

(Not really. It simply happened. Like... brakes weakening when going downhill.)

Light irritation and disbelief mounted as Aizawa stared at Riku. Despite that, he did not say anything and simply sighed tiredly.

Present Mic however, was not so subtle.

"DAMN, YOUR QUIRK REALLY IS JUST BUILT DIFFERENT!"

Despite what he said, his emotions were still filled with excitement and disbelief.

"WHAT, YOU GONNA ADAPT TO MY QUIRK IF YOU FAIL? YOU'LL OUTSCALE ME ON THE SPOT? JUST LIKE THAT?"

Riku did not really know how to answer. Was he supposed to just say yes?

Aizawa simply ignored him.

"Shindai. The reason we chose Hizashi is because sound can inflict multiple types of damage. Sound is essentially high-intensity vibrational energy."

He glanced at Present Mic for a moment before continuing.

"He can apply it as pressure to create shockwaves. He can use vibration to disrupt your internal organs, cause nausea, dizziness, even interfere with muscle control."

Another pause.

"Or he can overload your senses and shut your brain down through auditory input alone."

Riku's tail twitched slightly at that.

"And on top of that," Aizawa finished, "he can scale the output. I don't know how precise your Adaptation is, but i doubt you'll just adapt to all of this at the same time."

"AND IF YOU DO, I'LL JUST CRANK IT UP!!"

Present Mic grinned, clearly excited and flattered by Aizawa's description of his Quirk.

'...vibrational Energy. I'm a dumbass. That finger curse in JJK used pure Cursed Energy for long range attacks. I should have long range attacks too.'

The realization had him facepalm. Still, he pushed the thought back, silently vowing to test this later. Two weeks was plenty of time after all.

His attention returned to his teachers. Aizawa had stepped back and seemed in the process of wearing some kind of headphones. Most likely noise cancelling.

Meanwhile Present Mic was clearing his throat whilst staring at Riku. Menacingly.

'Alright. So. Just no adaptation. Lets do this first try.'

Present Mic's voice rang out, strangely quieter than usual, as if purposefully held back.

"Ahem. Riku. I'm good to go? You ready?"

And the mischief emanating from the teacher was telling as well. In addition to the fact that Aizawa was still moving backwards, not intent on stopping.

Nevertheless, Riku nodded. 'I don't think i should brace myself for this...'

Present Mic smiled a bit, then took a deep breath.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!"

'Holy shi-'

The scream hit him like a wall. His cursed energy flared instinctually, as his previous adaption's reflexes kicked in, but despite his body reinforcing itself, the shockwave of the scream blasted him backwards.

Riku gritted his teeth a bit but remained standing. He tried to stop his Cursed Energy from reinforcing his body in order to naturally take the hit, but his mind seemed to refuse.

But despite his reinforcement, the feeling on top of his head lightened. And Riku understood why.

His body shook. Even as his skin and muscles resisted the blast, the vibration of the sound creeped through his body, rattling his organs. A bile rose in his throat as the nausea deepened.

His wings twitched and his head hurt. Windows shattered as the sound shifted into a more high pitched sound. The ringing in his ears became stronger until the sound of Present Mic's scream shifted into something entirely different.

All that remained was the ringing and the pain. Riku clutched his head as his knees gave out. By instinct, his Cursed Energy flowed deeper into his insides, attempting to stabilize his body from within, but he stubbornly resisted his instincts. His Cursed Energy sensor was down, he had stopped paying attention to his surroundings entirely.

Only moments later, the vibrations weakened. Present Mic must have stopped screaming because Riku knew, he had not yet adapted. Despite that, the ringing and pain in his head remained and Riku promptly bend over and emptied out the bile which had risen from his stomach, a heavy growl escaping him.

But his attention, remained on the light feeling on top of his head. He knew it instinctually, he wasn't ready to adapt yet.

But the impulse was already enough to force an adaptation.

-

(POV: Fumikage Tokoyami)

"-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!"

'Tch.' On top of a building of a Faux-city, the dark figure of Tsukuyome, aka Fumikage Tokoyami could be seen looking around.

The student held a flash lamp and pointed it at his comrade and Quirk in arms, Dark Shadow. At least, that was what he had been doing before the malevolent shriek tore through the surroundings.

But whilst he could not make out where exactly the shriek came from, a building a few blocks away was suspiciously windowless. Surrounded by others of the same kind.

"...another. is it louder?"

The source of that noise could be no other than Present Mic. The teachers voice was... distinctive.

But who the person was, was not the mystery. The real mystery was the why?

Why was a teacher screaming in a faux-city? Was he training? Possible. Was he training someone?

'That is probably it. And someone is probably Riku...'

A sigh escaped him. His comrade in darkness wasn't really a high-maintenance person. He was usually composed, understanding and generally not a troublemaker.

But it seemed like that was about to shift. And honestly? Tokoyami started noticing things which bothered him about Riku. Not in a sense that he disliked his friend, but rather that he worried for him.

'He is just different.'

It was obvious. And no, he wasn't just referring to his mutant traits. Tokoyami had noticed it a while ago, but Riku simply thought differently. Processed things, differently. While everyone had grown up to admire Heroes, Riku had often dismissed them.

'It must have been due to his blindness and deafness.'

It made sense. Yet the simplicity of how such a conclusion came to him bothered him.

'Because even so...'

Even blind and deaf, he had learned about them. He had been told about incidents and how Heroes resolved them.

'...Maybe because of his empathy?'

Tokoyami's shoulders sagged a little. He was beginning to suspect he had been wrong about understanding him.

He wasn't sure of it, but he felt like his friend had grown arrogant. Not in the sense that he thought he was better than everyone else.

'But like he understands everything better than others do.'

Riku had this certainty in anything he said. As if he knew society in and out. As if he understood how people ticked.

There was a slight... disconnection, Tokoyami wasn't sure if that was the right way to label it. But it was as if Riku watched everything from a higher plane.

Even when they had trained together and Riku gave advice or shared his thought, the way it came out was as if he was just explaining something he did not need to justify.

'As if he already had the answer. Or at least can reach it whenever he wants to.'

-

"Oh? That? It's because of this."

The certainty came first, then came the reasoning.

"This? Probably because of this.... maybe I'm wrong."

Even in uncertainty, he sounded confident..

"Why? I don't know. It just makes sense, no?"

It was pieced together in real time.

-

"-EEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

A third scream burst forth, tearing Tokoyami out of his thoughts.

More windows shattered somewhere and he suddenly felt thankful for Aizawa's notice of staying away a certain sector of the faux-city.

'Still... i should continue my own training.'

He had seen the usual structure of the festival and if there was one thing which never changed, that was the tournament between the students.

'And... i should find a way to overcome my own issues.'

Because even with his current strength, his weakness seemed accessible for far too many opponents.

-

-

(Pov: Riku)

'Gah... godddamnit... no.'

KRRRNK-

'ah, come on...'

-RNK- CLANK

"...and you failed."

The voice of his teacher rang out, but Riku did not fully hear it. That being said, he was fully able to guess what the cranky Eraser-head said.

Still, he did not answer. He was too busy huffing and puffing while remaining on all fours and attempting to keep his now-empty stomach from turning itself inside out.

"HRR...RR"

His growl was his only answer as he slowly tried to steady himself. His two teachers had the decency to give him time to do so.

"Shota. Your student vomited white bubbles. Is that not weird?"

"Shut up, weird is normal for him."

'The fuck ...?'

Ignoring his teachers insensitive discussion, he raised himself to his feet. The pain and dizziness in his head had disappeared but the disorientation lingered a bit. His Cursed Energy redeployed into the familiar bubble it usually formed and Riku instantly felt the change.

'...Vibration?'

It was something he had already been capable of, when lacing his Voice with his intent and Cursed Energy. But now, his entire Cursed Energy seemed overly sensitive as if his control over it had strengthened.

"And? You adapted what exactly?"

Aizawa's unimpressed voice had Riku deadpan. This teacher had a problem when it came to consoling his students.

"YM DESRUC YGRENE LORTNOC DEVORPMI. I DLUOHS EB ELBA OT RETNUOC RUOY DNUOS HTIW YM NWO NOITARBIV."

(My Cursed Energy control improved. I should be able to counter your Sound with my own vibration.)

"Alright. Why?"

'...why? Because i adapted to sound???'

"SA UOY DIAS, DNUOS SI LANOITARBIV YGRENE. I NAC WON RETNUOC TI HTIW YM NWO NOITARBIV."

(As you said, Sound is vibrational Energy. I can now counter it with my own Vibration.)

Aizawa's disapproval mounted and Riku did not get why. At least he wasn't the only one, because Present Mic seemed confused as well.

"All right. Our goal was to get you to resist adaptation, but i think you need to understand this."

His voice was serious and the annoyed undertone was plain to hear.

"During the villain's attack, you adapted to specific things. Especially when unconscious, your adaptation was fast and precise although not massively impactful. What about now?"

'...? '

"I detpada ot..."

(I adapted to...)

"No, you dont get it. Whatever, he'll show you. Hizashi, turn it up. Wait until i'm out of here though."

'Wait, what?'

"Huh? You sure?"

"Don't worry, he adapted."

With that, Aizawa turned around and bolted whilst fastening his headphones and leaving Present Mic and Riku to stare at each other in awkward Silence.

"So, uh kid. What music do you like?"

"IANER NOITALUCRIC."

(Renai Circulation.)

"..."

A good minute later after awkward silence, the awaited ping appeared on Present Mic's phone and the man grinned.

"Looks like we'll have another go at it. I think i see what Shota's trying to teach you."

With that, the teacher suddenly pressed the button on the loudspeaker of his hero suit and pulled out a Microphone.

'Oh fuck me.'

Present Mic grinned and took a deep breath as Riku's readied himself in order to counter the sound with his own Cursed Energy.

"YEEEEEEEAAAAA-"

His Cursed Energy shot forward in the same moment and Riku even added a scream in order to better establish his counter.

"RÄÄÄAAA-"

For the single second in which the vibrations clashed, a moment of triumph popped up.

Then, the ground shook. His body twitched as he sunk to his knees and the vibration in his Cursed Energy gave way to Present Mic's own scream.

'Huh, but i didn't sto-...'

It felt as though something popped in his wings as everything went black.

-

'huh'

A moment later, his body tensed up and the sensation of his mind pulling him back into consciousness appeared. He was in a low stance, only a few steps away from Present Mic who stared at him in slight disbelief.

'...i countered the vibration, didn't i? So why...?'

"Holy shit, you suddenly took a fighting stance while unconscious, i thought i was going to have to fight you."

'I did? Ah, my reflex. Right.'

His head hurt even worse than before. There had been no adaptation, just his reflexes pulling him out of unconsciousness as his mind had blacked out.

'uh... Aizawa... he said something about precision.'

What was the difference...? Between what he had done and during USJ... precision.

Then, he froze. Aizawa's explanation of Present Mic's quirk popped up in his head.

"Shindai. The reason we chose Hizashi is because sound can inflict multiple types of damage. Sound is essentially high-intensity vibrational energy.

He can apply it as pressure to create shockwaves. He can use vibration to disrupt your internal organs, cause nausea, dizziness, even interfere with muscle control.

Or he can overload your senses and shut your brain down through auditory input alone.

And on top of that, he can scale the output. I don't know how precise your Adaptation is, but i doubt you'll just adapt to all of this at the same time."

'All at the same time... I adapted to all at the same time, but it wasn't good enough. I should have tried to adapt to a single thing.'

But could he? He wasn't exactly capable of controlling what he adapted to....

'...His Quirk was the danger. So i adapted to it. Maybe... i can reframe what exactly the danger is, I'll adapt differently?'

Precision. He needed to be able to control what he adapted to. But he did not know how.

Maybe this is where he needed to set a binding vow? What if...

'I will adapt to a single phenomenon at a time and any following Adaptation will remain bound to that phenomenon.'

The following sensation was that of a delicate shift on top of his head. It was barely noticeable, but he instinctively knew it had worked.

'...this should mean it will work? Lets try it. I just have to...determine what's most dangerous to me.'

"REHCAET. NAC EW YRT NIAGA?"

(Teacher. Can we try again? )

"Huh? You sure? Wait, im gonna ask Shota."

With that, the teacher raised his communication device to his mouth.

"Shota! Shindai wants me to go at it again. Should i? Or..."

"Why do you think did i not come back. Take at it till he figures it out."

"...alright! Get ready kid!"

"SEY"

(Yes.)

And with that, Present Mic heaved a deep breath.

-

"-AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

KRRRNK- CLANK

Riku's body stopped shaking. His wings still fluttered, mostly due to the pain. His body had been pushed backwards even as he tried to resist but then, as the wheel turned, the shaking of his body and the rattling of his organs ceased.

A tight feeling intensified in his insides as his muscles flexed in places he had never felt before, countering the vibrations and pressing against his organs, stabilizing them.

The ringing in his ears was back and this time, didn't cease quickly. Minutes passed by as his CE sensed Present Mic speaking through his transmitter, but he found himself incapable of hearing him.

'...i couldn't choose.'

Danger, was not something you could rank and evaluate on the spot. At least not faster than your body's instinct did.

As he had pushed himself to try to see the knock-back as the most dangerous, the sheer vibration coursing through his body had been what the wheel had adapted too.

'...maybe...i can be more specific? My validation for an adaptation?'

But... that wasn't it. He needed to fulfill the schools condition too, that meant stop his adaptation. It needed to work like his Cursed Energy, totally under his own control....

'My cursed Energy? What if...?'

Slowly, he steadied himself and formulated his new vow.

'I will bind my Cursed Energy onto a single phenomenon. Until that adaptation completes, i will be unable to change the target of adaptation.'

Again, the strange shift snapped above of his head and in his Cursed Energy as the vow settled. Then, once more, Riku signaled Present Mic to go again.

-

(Pov: Aizawa)

He sat on a small bench, his eyes focused upon the small screen in front of him. The screen portrayed the figure of his pupil and friend/coworker as they repeated the test.

Most of these screams had been loud enough to reach him, even as far as he was now but it did not matter. His focus remained on the reactions of his student and the wheel floating above his head.

Riku Shindai's quirk. Adaptation. Honestly, a godly ability.

If, you wanted to be a selfish god.

Because beyond saving the students own ass, Aizawa struggled to see the ability saving anyone. That was not to criticize the Quirk itself, every Quirk's value was tied to its wielder after all, but it was popular belief that a Quirk represented someone's soul.

And if that rule was applied to Shindai, then Aizawa thought that the Quirk was selfish.

Which, did not fit his character.

'...at least most of the time...'

One of this student's problems was how focused he became during fights. Setting aside the issue at USJ, he tended to prioritize his own development... which would be a good thing if it didn't distract him from his objectives.

But... with the ability to learn and overcome all, wasn't it normal for one to start treating everyone as an opportunity for growth?

This made sense to him. At the same time, he did not wish to see this happen for his student.

He focused as he watched Shindai stand up again, seemingly bracing himself for another wave.

Honestly, he himself wasn't too sure what to expect the student to do. Following a short talk with the Principal, he had decided to adhere to the simplest method, namely granting the kid resources for Adaptation and hope for the best.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

'Hm?'

His eyes narrowed as he stared at Shindai who dropped to his knees on screen.

'The wheel's not moving?'

The ethereal wheel, had even if not adapting, shaken during earlier attempts.

And now, it didn't.

'He succeeded already?'

With that, Aizawa stood up and sent a quick message towards Present Mic. The kid was grinning on screen but his ears...wings could be badly damaged if the loud teacher didn't shut up.

And, he wanted to understand whatever the kid may have figured out about his Quirk.

So, hiding the satisfied grin behind his scarf, he headed back to his student.

CHAPTER END

Binding vow:

Use Cursed Energy to lock onto Adaptation. Use Cursed Energy to steadily get Stimuli for Adaptation at faster rate than normal. Adapt.

BUT

Cannot change target of adaptation without resetting whole progress. Cannot adapt to broad concepts (unless a shit ton of patience and CE)
